"Sony's PR department told Yomiuri that the problem is not related to a product malfunction and will thus not result in a recall. The company believes that the problem is with people having liquids or other objects inserted in the connection. Those who ended up with a burnt out connector will have to pay to get it fixed."
D'oh. Why would you put liquids....*smh* . I wouldn't put it pass them (31 outta 1.6 million), but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they used random charger cords that Sony didn't provide.
Edit: Oh, didn't notice the pictures. Looks like they jammed the cord in the wrong way lol. They tell you not to put it in that way from the manual.
Wow you already edited your comment. I was just about to say that lol.
Well, yeah, it appears that the problem is people plugging the charger upside down when charging it judging from the pics. Seems like Sony should have made the extra effort to make sure the Vita was idiot proof...
tbf if i hadn't been warned prior when I 1st charged my vita I might not have noticed the ps symbol on the charger it isn't the most obvious thing; personally I'm used to chargers not fitting when you try to put them in the wrong way round :p however there's only been the one occasion I've tried to charge it without looking and accidentally put it in the wrong way around :p
Yea normally it just slides right in the correct way, you have to really jam that bad boy for it to fit in the wrong way lol. seems to be plenty of stupid people in the world lol.
I remember a lady with her kid taking a ds into gamestop, and she told the employee that the ds stopped working for some reason. The employee looked at it and said, "um, was this soaked in water?" And she said "oh why would that cause a problem?" Sigh, smh.
This is the last thing Vita needed right now. More hardware complaints. Being serious that sounds bad. Companies blame customers for being careless but that is HIGHLY RARE for it being the user.
In this case it definitely sounds like a hardware fault.
In Sony's defense, there was a case where Sony refused warranty on a console and the whole internet (me included) was up in arms about it. Then the truth came out and the PS3 looked like it had been in a dust storm!
I had to eat my own words and learned a lesson! Don't be so sure until you have seen all the facts, and ruled out everything. I thought it was a slam dunk case.
These "complaints" are nothing to Sony. It isn't there problem but the stupid fools who plug their PSV charger upside down, and the idiots who randomly get liquid and other who knows what inside their devices.
Oh yes this is a hardware fault, for those owners who seem to have lost their head a long time ago.
Yes I have "bothered to click the link" I read this article hours before it was posted here. I have a Vita and I would think it to be practically child safe to plug it the wrong way considering the plug actually has teeth that only fit one way.
Yes you could plug it in the wrong way, but you'd have to be trying really really hard, to the point of negligence.
Sony is doing this on purpose to make an excuse to make new Vita models with 4G slimmer and few better features so early in the life cycle. Alot of Companies do it.
I dont get how ppl can have expensive items like this & treat them like $hit.. Crusty a$$ hands from eating (or whatever else they do) then touching all over it.. Liquids & other potentially damaging things just laying around it.. I keep my hands clean when i use my electronics... I put screen protectors, casings, & whatever else to prevent them from being ruined.. Some ppl let their children play on it right after they get finished eating ribs or whatever else is messy & sticky.. SCREW that! No1 touches my vita but ME! & if they do, i make them thoroughly wash their hands first & watch them like a hawk.. Thats adults, kids can only watch me play it from a distance lol.. If it gets ruined due to neglect or ignorance, they deserve to pay for it to get fixed.. Mine works just fine
Wow, I agree with you to the max. Dirty hands do not go anywhere near my electronics. They're as clean as can be and in immaculate condition, this is what makes me feel good. I don't understand people these days. It's disgusting to use dirty, food stained, wet hands on your electronics or really anything, whether it be your PSV, cellphone, or TV remote. It's all about having respect and courtesy for youreslf and others.
Lol at kids gaming right after they eat ribs or whatever food. Yeah it's true, and the parents lose.
I have to clean my vita regularly since my cousin started using it. He's cunning and only shows up to ask for it when i'm busy and can't be bothered to say no. Then i get it back at the the end of the day all greasy and finger printy. Thank god for the screen protector and case or else i'd have lost my screen by now. I nearly freaked out when i saw scratches on the back though. Gotta protect my $300 investment :D

When people are busy, they don't always look. I do the same thing with USB ports. I just try both gently.
It seems idiotic these days to design something that can only operate in one way, yet allow both ways/sides of insertion (even with a little force).
It's not rocket science here engineers!
My bad, your right. The Vita is actually at 2.5 million units WW.

when its in use it stays cool..
thats why i always turn it completely off.
did anybody noticed that the psvita is rated for 6+ year olds?
a kid has more probabilities of accidentally plugging the charger the wrong way.
In this case it definitely sounds like a hardware fault.

It's not obvious that plugging something in wrong way will cause a fire! Even worse allow it to be plugged in!!! o_0
That's the question.
Yes you could plug it in the wrong way, but you'd have to be trying really really hard, to the point of negligence.

i recieved my vita back with a layer of food/grease/ etc.
and the vita would not properly accept the swipe motion i had to clean the damned thing.
now when he wants to play i tell him to wash his hands or he can just watch me play
