Is Guild Wars 2 the Most Hyped Game ever?

Suck My Trend - Guild Wars 2 is coming. Its only a month away according to their Twitter page. The release date is set for 28th August 2012, but is this simply too late? It has been years of development, and when it was first announced, the hype was incredible. Everyone had the impression this would be the only game to stand a chance at overtaking World of Warcraft.

diablo 3 was hated before it came out so it doesn't count. More "omg its always online no way" articles rather than good ones. So yes GW2 is more hyped that D3, for some reason.

The "always online" articles / other hate did have a point. Server problems, RMAH problems (people losing money that they were allowed to put into their account but lost when they tried to purchase items due to region checks or such), glitches and dupping...

But besides all the hate, D 3 was hyped way more (for PCs). Blizzard's marketing of the game outshines anything GW2 has had. Ads everywhere, online and on TV. Look at the past few articles on GW2, barely any comments, and most under 100°. Pretty much every D3 article has a dozen or so comments. Advertising helps get people looking at it, getting it attention and building up hype for its release.

Though if you include consoles, then pretty much every COD is the most hyped game ever due to their marketing budget and following...

D3 isn't close to as good as GW2.

I have both (beta for GW2) and what Arena Net has done is absolutetly fantstic.

this is my 3rd beta of gw2 and while they are improving the game each time, i still dont get how the game run so shitty, i look at the graphics and i don't see a bf3 in it and yet it lags way more than bf3, and for me the hype was the pvp which is ok nothing really new there, i still dont get the hype for the game, is another mmo imo.

I think GT5 also had alot of hype, which it failed to live up to. All those years of bullshots and doors falling off damaged cars, all lies!

@liliyoyo The Fable series held great promise but was ultimately all hype and I'm including the entire series. ME3 was also all hype and the game isn't as good as it's claimed to be. FF13 had more than enough hype since it's the only next-gen FF to exist right now. Too Human was also hyped to be the next big thing but fell flat on it's face due to development problems, legal troubles with Epic etc. Enter the Matrix sold 5 million copies thanks to the hype surrounding the game. You've clearly never played Rise of the Robots on the PC to know what a horrible game it is. Spore promised the earth and didn't deliver at the end of the day.

I remember that. Brawl was the only reason I went out and bought a Wii in the first place. Will most likely do the same whenever the next game in the series comes out for Wii-U.

I want to sell my account, not becouse game is bad or anything, but i pre purchased and realised i do not like mmos anymore and i better stick to single player.

The only way you will sell the account is at a big loss. you should keep it and try it for a little longer, see if you change your mind or not, I thought I was done with MMO's after SWTOR but playing the BWE in GW2 I'm more excited then ever, the best thing is since it has no monthly fee you can leave the game for a month and play something else then comeback without wasting money.

Seriously, how does one even reach this conclusion after D3? No, it has an average level of hype for a game that's been in the works for a while.

No not even close, I can't say what the most hyped game is because I have no idea but I know it's not GW2. Hell I was more hyped for SWTOR (that turned out well).

Sure GW2 is hyped but at the same time the hype works with the game because a lot of people who have played the Bete events are still hyped (like myself). Sure there will be the people who are disappointed and hate the game, that's a given because people have different tastes but for the most part the game is on tract and is running extremely well for an MMO launch.
