Dead Space Writer Thinks Dead Space 3 Is Heading In "The Wrong Direction"

Dead Space and Binary Domain writer Antony Johnston has voiced his opinion that the team behind Dead Space 3 "may be taking it in the wrong direction". (Dead Space 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I'm happy us gamers on N4G aren't the only ones who share that feeling

Couldn't have said it better.

Yea, I was starting to get tired of the pretentious hype from EA telling us it'd be 'TOOO SCARY FOR YOU GAIZ!1!" Like, they take us for idiots?

Am glad someone who's IN THERE, can admit this kinda shit :/
antz1104  +   329d ago
I loved the story for DS2 but it was already really leading away from survival horror and into action territory.....glad someone up top sees it too!

Im still baffled by a lot of the choices they are making

Its losing every shred of identity Dead Space had, and now feels like a me too cover shooter

In the demo they showed... isacc just sprayed with the pulse rifle....

When you prefer the space marine weapon over the iconic plasma cutter... then you got a problem

Even the boxart looks generic

Other boxarts exactly like it

For the love of god people... boycott this game.

We need to show them we are serious about our survival horror games getting ruined by executives pushing action on us.

Save your money.

He's thinking right.
Red_Orange_Juice  +   330d ago
I think they should really conclude the story and move on to the nexr IP
Robotronfiend  +   330d ago
Sounds like he's got his head on straight and would be a big asset to a game that has good game play, but could use a stronger story.
StrongMan  +   330d ago
That's not a thought, it's a fact.
sriki007  +   330d ago
couldn't they make a new ip for the less scary action game and leave the scary bit to deadspace..
Dammit ea!!
guitarded77  +   330d ago
Or just make a new Army of Two game, because that's what Dead Space 3 looks like. If they would just make an Army of Two game for co-op and a really scary single-player game for Dead Space 3, all would be right with the world.
DeadSpaced  +   330d ago
Hey, Antony Johnston. I think exactly the same way.

Let's just all hope that solo mode doesn't deviate all that much from DS2.

I see nothing wrong with the way Dead Space is heading.

"on noez, theyre adding co-op which mean there be no more scarez". Silly kids.

Besides, this is just another misleading, sensationalist headline. For those of you that care, what he actually said is this:

“I haven’t seen much of Dead Space 3, perhaps as much as you, but what I have seen made me worry a little that they may be taking it in the wrong direction. That being said, I have a lot of faith in the team and I’m sure they won’t disappoint the fans”.

So he admits he hasn't seen much of the game, and he is a LITTLE worried that they MAY be taking it in the wrong direction, but he also has A LOT of faith in the team and is SURE that they won't disappoint the fans.
CustardTrout  +   330d ago
He does have A LOT of faith in EA, you could tell by the way he said it.

I expect that the game will be fun, but not scary. Which is upsetting, but only time will tell I guess?

Ever wonder why you have one bubble?

“I have high hopes for Silent Hill, and I’m encouraged by Amnesia. It has a cult following. Developers and publishers need to come to terms with it never being a mass thing, like books and films, it’s a niche. But there’s still profit to be had, and they should set expectations accordingly.”

Smartest line I have read today so far.

I hate when people who have been with the franchise from the start in terms of it's development realise it's going down hill, say a comment like this but then end with something like...

"I have a lot of faith in the team and I’m sure they won’t disappoint the fans”

Why do people feel they have to end there criticism of a positive note, even Shinji Mikami did this when talking about RE6 when you can see he's just saying it incase he gets into crap. If it's heading in the wrong direction and even the writter of the franchise thinks the same as fans then I really think it will dissapoint us.

I think its just being respectful of others work as well as an admission to not really knowing. He voiced his concern but clearly he doesn't actually know much about the game beyond what most of us have been shown, so ultimately he could be totally wrong. Game development is fairly small community in many ways... best not to burn bridges.

what a surprise, stupid retards disagree with a true statement. tzunoy is right.
palaeomerus  +   330d ago
It might not be the original direction but what if they new game is still fun to play? I heard the same kind of crap about Resident Evil 5 and DeadSpace 2. I enjoyed both of them. If it's more action that horror, so what? Aliens was more action than horror compared to the Alien. Still a pretty good movie!
cleft5  +   330d ago
Yeah, this dude totally just lost his job. But hey, good luck with that whole having an opinion thing.
sugadaddy  +   330d ago
Heading toward the shitter is indeed usually the "wrong direction."
WeskerChildReborned  +   330d ago
This guy is smart then.
Megaton  +   329d ago
Don't support EA's homogenization of gaming. Do not buy EA products. Future gamers will thank you.
maddox123  +   327d ago
the guy said he thinks it is, and that he believes they won't disappoint the fans. and also, ea never said dead space was too scary, a website wrote it to get more traffic and views on the the story retards, read the damn article before you say shit
