Forbes, Erik Kain- "The first time I played The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 instead of my gaming PC I was disappointed with the graphics.
It wasn’t that the graphics were bad - far from it. As console games go, The Witcher 2 is one of the better looking titles out there. But on my computer, the game really shines. It’s lush and well lit and truly one of the most gorgeous looking games I’ve ever played.
Yesterday I hooked my PC up to my 42″ LG LED TV with an HDMI cable and fired up The Witcher 2. I was surprised by what I saw. It looked, inexplicably, identical to the Xbox 360 version (or at least close enough that all the small things that bugged me about the Xbox version were noticeable.) What gives?"
I know that Sony will be the first to usher in 4k resolution with games just like they did 3d, 1080p, 4k pictures, blu ray and other cutting edge tech.
My opinion is that I'm sick of 1080p, and game graphics of this gen and I'm ready for next gen. Some may say that next gen is already on pc but they are wrong. Battle field 3 which is amazing on ultra isn't good enough for me and I know it can be way better.
Next gen starts when Sony says so
The PS4 will be the Ultra HD console leaving all other platform in the pre-historic age of standard HD.
Its also hilarious that many people especially who play on console that are inferior to the playstation think sony will settle for standard HD when they are one of the companies that are always looking to advance technology to a perfect level.
I think that kind of rumor would be false
He's not lying about this. Depending on what tv you have (doesn't matter if it's 1080p) it can degrade the quality of the image. I bought a 25 inch 1080p tv for my computer to use as a monitor and it freaking sucked, and it messed up my eyes. It was also very blurry and so it didn't capture the fine details. So I returned it and bought a 27 inch acer monitor that's 1080p and I use is as my monitor and for playing ps3 games and the quality of the picture looks better than most tv's. I also don't have a crappy pc, so it couldn't have been that.
When i hook up my PC games they still look like PC games but on a much larger screen.
BDXL has a capacity of 128gb, or more than 5 times the capacity of a single layer bluray so it should be fine for 4k. You'll just a 4x speed drive to support the required data capacity.
And there are higher capacity blurays in the works, they've shown working disks supporting over 500gb.
we will be lucky if we get 1080p at 60 frames with 2x-4x anti aliasing for the first year or 2, then you will see devs dropping the res lower and lower, (like this gen, resistance 3, alan wake, splinter cell conviction and many others, sub-hd 540p)
eventually, a few years into ps4/720 games will be 720p with jaggies all over again.
consoles are awesome, they bring gaming into the living rooms of people with zero computer skills, or to those who dont want to bother, but you can put this in the bank, even next gen, 1st party titles that are the absolute best ps4/720 have to offer, will not look anywhere near as good as the witcher 2 does in ultra at 1600p with tons of AA!
on the subject of tv's, o play my console games on the smallest screen possible, and my pc games on the largest, pc games look GREAT on a huge tv, the support the true resolution of the tv, nasty upconverted sub-hd or 720p max console games look terrible blown up on a huge 1080p tv, the jaggies and screen tearing are unbearable to me, i use my ps3/360 on the sony 3d tv and they look ok.
