CVG- Tomb Raider: Will survival gameplay set it apart from Uncharted?

CVG- "We've got faith in Crystal Dynamics. Their last game, Underworld, was a good mix of action, exploration and freeform puzzling - so it makes sense that they'd refine that formula, rather than devote themselves to flashy action. But they aren't doing themselves any favours by showing levels that go against everything they've promised: that it's about survival, and that Lara is a more grounded, believable character than we saw in the other games.

Frankly, it doesn't make any difference to us whether this is old Lara or a modern Lara: all we want is a good Tomb Raider game that lets us explore exotic environments, solve puzzles and, y'know, maybe raid some tombs. At E3 we saw a glimpse of a new scavenging system that enables Lara to upgrade items by collecting scrap from around the island, but the idea seemed a little half-baked. Hopefully Crystal Dynamics will build on the shooting and climbing, and flesh out the survival aspect. That's what could set this apart from the likes of Uncharted." (PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360)

The irony is 3 Uncharteds later people are asking if Tomb Raider can set itself apart from the series tht was actualy inspired by Tomb Raider. Crazy how that works..

Uncharted is an amazing series but there is definately room on the adventure front for a a fresh reboot of Laura.

That'd be Lara. Sorry.

It is the way English people pronounce Lara; Americans hear it as Laura. Although if EvilDead isn't American then it just makes him a moron xD.

In what way was uncharted inspired by tomb raider? Yea its an action adventure game with puzzles and that's about it. Uncharted is a moder indiana Jones so that's where the inspiration came from. However I believe that the reboot will stand on its own with the survival element and the fact that the whole mood of them.game is dark and.gritty. just asking as they don't over do the set pieces they'll be fine.

I'm pretty sure the Indiana Jones movies was the inspiration to do Tomb Raider the game series, but to entice the gaming audience during those times which would be still male dominated was to make a switch to a female character. The only problem afterwards was the game franchise really didn't evolve as quickly and now fast-forward to the Uncharted series they showed how it is done and more so switch back to the re-booted version of Tomb Raider this gave them the inspiration to do just that. Hence the irony.
