In a ‘shocking’ turn of events it seems video games are the cause of the recent shooting in Colorado.
games cause pretty much everything
Add the /s so users know..
... he probably also sometimes ate fastfood, read comicbooks, went to school, maybe he had a pet, perhaps he had a girlfriend who broke up with him...!? ...MAYBE...JUST MAYBE... he did the same things EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD AT THAT AGE DOES!?!?!!? But hey, I guess the fact that he MIGHT have liked videogames, made him a crazy killing nutjob...(!) Nice going, CNN. That's really some objective mature realistic journalism you've got going on there...(!)
Apparently, blaming games as the cause of such horrid events is still acceptable. Doesn't society always tell us to take responsibility for our actions? How hypocritical.
I believed that he also used to watch a lot of daytime TV. Maybe the cast of The View should be sent to prison?
Seek society does say take responsibility but they always add an /s at the end in their heads. The worse part of stations saying nonsense like this is that they mention that terrorist represent a small minority of a religion but for games, it seems to be all of us.
Heh, yeah. And you gotta love the evidence: “This has been something he has really been into. And now we’re going to find, probably on facebook or anybody who knows him will say, ‘Yeah, he did have a lot of interest in that, He was always playing the video games.” Because you know...the mentally sound 20-somethings out there are NEVER into video games.
everybody plays video game.. So am I. i am not planing on shooting people though. and trust me if that guy was muslim like me they won't say anything about video games they will say islam did it.
and if islam didnt do it, the parents did. Self-responsibility doesnt exist on this planet
This really pisses me off.... a shooting happens... and they have no proof that video games are the reason this crime occurred... but lets blame them anyways. If a person is psychotic... they already have the mindset to kill someone... they don't need videogames to inspire someone People really love to blame video games
Wow its crazy how people predicted that this was going to happen and I really don't think it was video games that made him do that. Blaming things on other seem to be the easy way out. I played lots of shooters and violent games but I don't have thoughts doing anything like that. The guy was already messed up in the head.
They're also going to be trying to make gun laws more strict. Politicians and news sources are going to turn this event into a lot of different controversies.
Why is video gaming even a big thing for investigators? Its way too common now. Playing an app on your android even counts as gaming. Its as common as watching tv now. Do they profile criminals based on if they watch tv or not now?
I heard he drank water....and breathed air....OUTLAW WATER AND AIR!!!!
I heard he also wore boxer shorts all the time. Those things are clearly evil.
Boxer shorts only become evil when you wear the same set for 6 months straight.
So Guitar Hero was the cause of this? http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/... Also I don't think she's actually blaming video games. She's blaming psychopaths. Changing up the line from Scream, She's basically saying "Video games don't create psychos. Video games make psychos more creative" That said, I hope that this doesn't even make it to trial. He'll probably go for the insanity plea. They need to put him in general population and let things play out. Give a prize to who ever gets to him first.
Couldnt agree more. But there are plenty of people in prison who have young children of their own. He wont last a month.
The major cable networks have sunk to a new low when TMZ does a more thorough investigation then CNN.
“And I’m not saying video games make you a killer. But if you’re a psychopath, video games help you get in the mode to do the killing. So it is a problem in our society with teenaged psychopaths, that they do get inspired by this and want to make it real. So it is a danger but it doesn’t make you a psycho.” THEN WHY EVEN MENTION IT?! Ugh. Stuff like this is obviously only said to instigate arguments and controversy. I very much doubt the families of the victims currently care whether or not the killer is a gamer. They just want their loved-ones back.
Yeah ok, blame it on the video games. People are so lame. Hows this for a killer TABACO. It causes cancer and kills millions every year. But it's okay for us to sell and smoke/chew it. Get a life CNN.
Sandman you know we aren't supposed to talk about that. Our congressman sold out for billions of dollars to look the other way as they kill thousands a year.
Oh yeah sure blame Video Games....do you think it may be caused by something else though like, oh I don't know maybe being obsessed with Batman. What I find odd though about the guy is that he wanted to "be the Joker" yet dyed his hair red (?) and dressed up in something Bane would wear from the film....obviously the guy must of been new to Batman. Hell even in the Batman video games the Joker dosen't do anything like that...the guy was just a nutcase plain and simple. If you were to blame anyone then the blame game should be on the person who give him the weapons in the first place.
It's funny that only so many people hear "red-haired Joker" and realize something is wrong. The video game blame was inevitable, although I'm surprised how long it took for us to reach it.
I blame aliens. Why? I ask why not given how absurd 'these' claims are
This was imminent....
Friends say he was also a fan of breathing and liked to eat food. We believe this caused his violent behavior.
Yep. Every incident that happens, videogames have a role to play. /s Still trying to help dodge people learning to take responsibility for their actions. Profiler? Lmao.
So does that mean movies are to blame too? Cause if Dark Knight Rises was probably not airing, nobody would probably be killed cause didn't he say he's the "joker"so that must mean he had to be inspired by the movie.
On this day some parent has taken away their child's video games because of this news. A sad day indeed.
I've played a lot of Super Mario growing up. I just finished playing Super Paper Mario and I've learned how to precisely jump on someone's head and flatten them. thanks video games!
stuff like this makes me want to slam my head against a wall. out of all of the things that show graphic action, they choose video games. there are a lot more f'ed up movies than there are games.
Hobo with a shotgun
Agreed... Booby trapped Apartment waiting to kill cops just incase he was killed by the cops(IMO) Using the same type of weapons in the last Batman movie with colored hair saying *I'm the Joker biatch* I would say Mental- issues>Hollywood>video games(No evidence of games in reality) He made a possible sick Joker-like rule where if he was killed by cops they would walk into his apartment getting the last laugh. He did not want to die and was arrested so he told the cops about the traps in his apartment following some sort of twisted honor code. Just my opinion. My family plays Mario and Dance Central, this article has me worried, betting stop unwinding with a session of Forza 4 every other day :$
Oh a car crashed into my mailbox. Damn video games
It was said that he always played NON-VIOLENT video games. Guess they forgot to mention that huh?
Oh they didn't forget. Video games are the other shark attack.
DAMN YOU AND YOUR MURDER INSPIRING GAMES!!!
Video games do not drive you to kill. A lack of love, guidance, friends and family does. It just so happens that when you lack that stuff you're more prone to dwell into the world of fantasy to play video games to escape your misery.
There are not many things that get me annoyed, but this....
when i grow up i want to shoot people too weeeee
Yea, and so do over a billion others! They dont kill, whats your point CNN! Jesus!
my heart goes out to the family's who lost there lives to this psychopath, rip.
Here we go again! Blaming the video games. I'm really, really starting to hate the media. This Guy obviously had some psychological issues. The way they described him, it sounded like he was impersonating the movie "Rampage". Also, he was calling himself the joker. So, obviously ITS BECAUSE OF MOVIES.
This is the 3rd time video games have been the source of blame for acts of crime and violence. As such this will be the 3rd time I place these hypocrites in their rightful place. For starters he was smart. Graduated high school in 2006, graduated college with honors in Neuroscience in 2010, and then went to further his education again in 2011. He is known to be "highly competitive" and "highly motivated". Let's see. This sounds very similar to the causes of Japan's extremely high suicide rate in Japan. In the last several years the suicide rate has risen there. The question is why? We know that the world experienced a global recession in 2008. Now, despite what the TV tells everyone, I have not seen the improvements in the economy to the extent the numbers on the tube. What likely happened here is this guy tried his best, got good grades, and failed in the real world. So he immediately went back to college, disgruntled of course, in hopes of overcoming the odds against him. He then realized that listening to the system got him nowhere and will likely repeat itself if he continues to "do the right thing". From my experience I've seen a nurse get laid off after 19 years of service with one year left before retirement. I've seen a master mechanic, who worked two jobs at fire stations get laid off from one job after working there all his life and is now getting slack from the second one. I've seen a woman with a master's degree in computers, who worked for IBM, that got laid off and couldn't find ANY job for at least one year. I've seen another who became an ICU nurse that had to leave his job because the company was cutting so many corners in healthcare it was almost certain death to his patients. I've got another person who became a teacher, only to be shafted, because she was always positive at work. No joke. The list goes on but never do they dare mention the economy as a factor for people wigging out. These people are good people, trying to make a life and actually earn their worth...only to get shafted in the end, sometimes moreso because they became educated. Now I'm not saying what this guy did was justified. Yet to say it's from video games is ridiculous especially when there are more obvious, and life threatening, issues in everyday life. People are struggling 22 hours of everyday and they blame the remaining 2 hours on video games. Right now I'd have to say video games are the only thing preventing acts such as that. Don't believe me? Start looking around.
I'd have to agree with your assessment of this guy. First and foremost, he was obviously a type A personality...which basically denotes that he is driven to succeed regardless of the cost. Most of the times, the cost is a true social life. He was probably withdrawn and introverted. Video games offer the perfect outlet for someone like that. You don't have to interact with anybody and if you do...it's on your own terms. Problem is...when things don't go right (whatever they might be) this personality can suffer serious adverse mental damage. That could have been the push to took him into his own world filled with perceived power (the Joker anti-hero persona). This is typical psychopathic behavior. Why he snapped??? Who knows. But, I bet the video games were more likely a way to vent and sooth than a training tool in this case.
Was the joker persona a confirmed report? I heard conflicting statements regarding this. This piece of information is important as it may have been a crucial motive for his behavior.
The Joker thing came from several eye witness reports from inside the theater at the time of the shootings. This was stated by the lead police chief that gave the statement on the morning after.
Have to wonder why the Dark Knight movie hasn't caught any flack. If one of the guy's first confessions was that he was emulating the Joker.
Completely agree. Though I don't think anyone (or anything) should divert the blame from the person that did the act.
Your realize you're saying that where this tragedy is exactly being remolded for expletive purposes, right? I saw a submission here which was trying to blame Guitar Hero of all things because that was the game he played most.
If the joker submission is true then there is definitely a link between the joker's philosophy and the the theater. I think it's more important to understand why he did it yet not blame the Dark Knight movie in the process...even if he was driven by it. Why? The joker's ideology held some truth and is a part of life.
Ahhhh just another scapegoat.
He was building up to this for a long time and if it wasnt one thing it would be another. I wouldnt blame it on anything except him but i dont see how they blame videogames when the obvious inspiration was The Dark Knight. He called himself the Joker, did this horrible act on the premier of the sequel, and prob wanted to be some "brilliant mastermind" like Joker in the movie. He prob thought he would get arrested and after all his traps would spring and it would be like the movie. Not saying the movie caused it because if it wasnt that it wouldve been something else he was obviously sick but its odd that they gloss over that connection and blame videogames. Guitar Hero to boot. Seems like people have their minds made up that games are horrible and use whatever to further their agenda. Truth is people latch on to whatever media (movies, tv, books, games) that goes along with their fantasies. He obviously wanted to do some horrible stuff while others want to be elvis, live on Pandora or in Middle Earth exc. Are all of those unhealthy and sick? No but if your already sick you will latch onto something dark and twisted yourself. The root problem is the darkness inside himself.
I heard when the guy was in custody, he said "I am the Joker," and he booby-trapped his room in vain of the Joker. So why didn't comics cause this? Oh no, wait it has to be games. Probably Arkham Asylum.
Blah blah blah, if games cause issues then there would hundreds of these cases everyday...
HERE WE GO!!! THIS MADE ME SIGN IN, I GUESS HUMAN STUPIDITY DOESN'T COME IN TO PLAY, BUT NOOOO IT'S ALWAYS VIDEO GAMES SMH, WHY CAN'T WE BLAME I DON'T KNOW HE'S MENTALITY
If the video games made him do it wouldn't there be a whole lot more people out there commiting mass murders? How many people bought the Call of Duty series anyways?
Next they'll blame the No Russian Level from MW2 that inspired him to do what he did.
Holmes was clearly provided with exotic gear Continuing from CBS: "He said pictures from inside the apartment are fairly disturbing and the devices look to be sophisticated, adding the booby-traps were 'something I've never seen.' One rifle, two handguns, a knife, a bullet proof vest, a ballistic helmet, a gas device, a gas mask, military SWAT clothing and unidentified explosives were also found in Holmes' car, a law enforcement source told CBS News. Oates said Holmes wore a gas mask, a ballistic helmet and vest as well as leg, groin and throat protectors during the shooting." In other words, this guy was equipped with exotic gear by someone with connections to military equipment. SWAT clothing, explosives, complex booby-traps... c'mon, this isn't a "lone gunman." This is somebody who was selected for a mission, given equipment to carry it out, then somehow brainwashed into getting it done. Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/...
