There’s a subsection of hard core MMA aficionados who get incredibly angry whenever cage fighting is compared to Pro Wrestling. “Wrestling is all fake crap!!!” they scream. “MMA is for athletes, not actors”. And while that may be true, in almost every other respect MMA and Pro Wrestling are two sides of the same coin.
For example, there’s a difference between “Pro Wrestling” fans and “WWE” fans. A Pro Wrestling fan could name the current ROH heavyweight champion, or tell you who Chris Daniels’ tag team partner is. A WWE fan on the other hand couldn’t care less about those things. They’re more concerned about watching John Cena get his revenge on the dastardly Chris Jericho, or finding out ifthe sweet and slightly unbalanced AJ will ever choose between the cool CM Punk or the manipulative Daniel Bryan. To them the only rasslin’ that exists on the planet carries a WWE brand. And WWE has done such a good job of monopolising the market that WWE fans outnumber Pro Wrestling fans at around 1000 to 1.
