Valve seems like the perfect company to work for in the gaming industry

I don't think "work" is in their vocabulary. They make a stellar game, then let the community go crazy with it. And truth be told, most of their games weren't made by them at first, they were made by the community. So I don't see Valve as a developer in the traditional sense, I see Valve as one big sharing community. Which is not a bad thing at all.
