Gamesta writes: Let’s face it! When a video game series sells enough copies of a game, the developer realizes that they might have a real success story on their collective hands. Sometimes a few gems come out with one great main character, stars in a few games, rounds out his or her epic tale and then he or she is put to bed and only lives on in our hearts and dreams as a memorable time that we will treasure forever. Sometimes though, a game company will realize that as long as they keep kicking out games, raving children of the world will whine and complain until their parents cave and spend their hard-earned money to quiet the shrill cry of their little ones. Then (and no one is more guilty of this video game sin than Nintendo) these beloved characters of our past are re-released about four hundred times to squeeze every last cent out of them. So, for the uninitiated, I have compiled a list of five of the characters that need to retire and play Canasta until they die.

I cannot wait for SMASH BROS WIIU and MARIO KART WIIU, can't wait to see nintendos magic in HD with good online capabilities
OUR past? Why can't it be the past of the people of this generation as well? Any game that can last over two decades does not need to retire because the demand is high enough generation after generation. Same reason Final Fantasy is still around. Yes it is all about money, but people are still happy to get the games regardless. It would be a crime against gaming to take away characters that have lasted from the 80's until the HD cinematic era with no voices, a timeless formula, and starting off the new generation of gamers and still satisfy the old fans.
New characters come with new IPs which rarely happen towards the end of a console generations...
It's gnerally simple, if you don't want to see a character anymore don't buy teir games. The publichsers will get the message...
You just can't kill off Mario, it's like deleting Mickey Mouse from Disney.
