David Perry has said that Earthworm Jim HD by Gameloft failed to offer the same attention to detail with its animation as the originals.
"The mistake that people make is that they never come and say, 'Hey, we're going to make an Earthworm Jim, can you guys help with that?' because there are things in there that they just don't understand," he said at Develop in Brighton.
"They'll take the five animation frames, and think by going, 'One, two, three, four, five', that's actually what the intention is, but that's not how it works at all.
"When you get into that level of animation, there's delays and pauses that add so much to the quality of that animation."
He later added: "It's funny, because one of the publishers did reach out to me recently saying they are thinking of doing one and can [they] have the source code, and the answer is, 'Of course you can'. I'd much rather it was good."
