DICE: ‘We’re in one of the best positions’ for Battlefield 4 timing

Battlefield 4′s abrupt debut by publisher Electronic Arts rippled across the gaming community within the past week, with many gamers staking into the “too soon” camp as the primary reason for the upcoming fourth-quel’s lukewarm reception so far.

Indeed, EA’s chatter of another fully realized entry in the popular multiplayer first-person shooter franchise seems impulsive. Battlefield 3 Premium is but a month old and only two of the five planned map packs released so far.

no disrespect..i love shooters like the next guy..but wow BF4 vs. MW4 is going to pretty much be the end of the popularity of military shooters.

Nah..who am I kidding..Call of Duty is the WOW of console gaming..people love to play what they are good at and FPS is what they and the next gen of gamers are good at.

This does make me believe that there won't be new consoles till holiday 2014.

I said before and say it again.
This isn't a move simply because people wanted it (Seriously who did?), it's a move so they can grab as much cash before this gen ends. Both PS3 and Xbox 360 have a large install base, if they launched next gen it would be much later.

I really wanted BF4 next gen, just simply because we know next gen will allow developers to do more for consoles than what's available now.

Next Gen will likely start before BF4 hits. The beta is slated for Fall of 2013, which means the game likely won't hit shelves until late Winter 2013 or even early 2014.

Devs wan't to chip away at the hearts and minds of COD fans while they have the momentum from BF3. Their usual span for releases in this franchise would cause them to lose too much ground in what I mentioned above.

Waiting till next gen isn't as important to them when we should be able to play BF4 on new hardware anyways. All they would have to do for graphics whores, is release next gen texture paks-DLC or other types of upgrades. The game will probably look better than most next gen launch titles anyways.

I agree... It's about making as much money as possible.

I don't know why Pandamobile got a disagree... Next Gen should be here before this game is done. The devs goal is to make gains in the COD fanbase and will have to bring their A game with the game. Next Gen for Nintendo will be here for sure.

My opinion, next gen will hit in 2014 and no sooner. the economy is not strong enough to handle new consoles yet. I dunno about you guys but I don't have a spare $1000. That being said, 10 years ago I did have it spare. The economy is not strong enough yet. Its still recovering, VERY slowly. Just look at places like Greece (no offence intended), you need a strong economy to introduce a new piece of equipment and you have to sell it like mad. 2014, all things going well, mark my words. Right'o, back to my controller.....

Wii U just catches Nintendo up to what the PS3 and 360 can do already, don't think it counts as "next Gen" just because of its controller. Microsoft's Smart Glass adds that to the 360 at about the same time, so, not next-gen, sorry.

This also reminds me of when Gameinformer got a tour of DICE HQ before BF3 was released, and Karl Magnus Troedsson said they had something special going on on the first floor of the building that GI couldn't see yet.

Those that didn't want Bad Company 3 wanted Battlefield 2142 follow up. This rumor and want got rather huge.

What does EA do? Say screw you to those fans that have obviously been a fan since before BF3 to cater to the crowd they just got from BF3 in honor of sales. Once again money comes before quality or what fans want. Its a business now, and the only people catering to fans are smaller companies not attached to massive publishers......Its sad.

New Mod developers and Independent game developers are the best ones to follow. They are always more passionate towards their fans.

EA has their grips on DICE now and they are taking control. No words can describe what happens when this happens. Oh yea there are a few. Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, SW:TOR. All three have been kinda so-so because of EA's involvement or decisions.

As far as them making Battlefield 4 for 2013. Most console games not based entirely on Peer to Peer action end dedicated server support every 2-3 years. I was expecting Bad Company 3 or 2143 for 2013 to be a filler until 4 came out.

I expect Dino DLC to be added to the last DLC pack. Just wait.

I guess people forgot that BF3 came out LAST year and this BETA doesn't even start until NEXT year? That doesn't mean the game comes out every year. People do the math! It's every 2 years. Like Medal of Honor... every 2 years. Activision and COD release every year. Yes it's 2 different devs but the game is still the same freaking game every year. Medal of Honor (small maps/killstreaks) is vastly different from Battlefield (large maps, lots of vehicles) and Bad Company (REAL destruction 2.0, devastation with humorous characters) isn't anything like BF and MOH either. If EA/DICE were smart they would release Battlefield Bad Company 3 next, then Medal of Honor Warfighter, THEN Battlefield 4. They should have a 3 year cycle. It's Battlefield Bad Company's turn now.
