What happened to thinking outside of the box? Why are we getting the same cookie cutter characters in every game? It is so rare to see something new and fresh. Devs need to stop looking the "tried and true" and start to wow us.
***"Devs need to stop looking the "tried and true" and start to wow us."*** Those type of characters will not die out anytime soon. Like you said they are "tried and true."
I understand this person to a certain point, but sometimes he just sounds like he hates "characters" in general. I'm fine with the cliches just as long as they're not exaggerated.
LOL- Sorry, but Navi wasn't a complete waste- not during the days where fully realized 3D worlds were a novelty. She did get annoying sometimes- but I have heard her in some great rap songs. NAVI REPRESENTING REAL HIP-HOP!
i get his point and i agree with the fact that the industry need some fresh new idea. but i dont agree with his examples
"Barret should have been the main character of FFVII" "Burly black guy who thinks he's the shit"
Lmfao... now that would be great ff
Yeah, Cloud should have died at the end of disc 2 and Barret would have been the lead. I would be all over that idea no sarcasm.
Hmm sounds like Sgt James Heller from prototype 2- Hes angrier than Barret dropping a Catastrophy..
Create some new human emotions and the cliche will go away. "serious female lead" Who would want the lead to be a weak minded and fragile character. These are just attitudes people have. I would much rather be able to relate to a certain character. Empowered and sexy female character, depressed characters, sheltered characters, good looking characters, and cheerful leaders are not going away.
Thats kinda hard to do... How many more ideas are there? They can make 1 main character with 8 skit so personalities
Did that. Killer 7
Stopped reading at, "The Emo Hero." Specifically the first sentence, "Almost every Final Fantasy hero." The writer very obviously has never played any Final Fantasy game before, and just assumes that the CGI-circlejerk that was Advent Children was a fair and accurate representation of the genre.
I agree, Squall is pretty much the only character to actually fall into that archetype.
Vaan from FF12 wasn't emo and people shited on him for dressing like aladdin and having funky haircut. You never win with gamers, the character has to have a funky haircut and be moody/emo.
Neither was Tidus. Or Zidane. Or Cloud. Or Any of the characters in FFVI. Or Cecil.
"Commissioner Gordon from Arkham Asylum looks like he could take on Superman and maybe even beat him." That kinda made me chuckle. The whole bit on Commisioner Gordan in Arkham Asylum
"Wario was fat, ugly, and looked like an alley-dwelling rapist." that made me chuckle... aside from that, the article is very poorly made, and the writes seems to bear some very hatred for Final Fantasy if i remember correctly, terra, cecil and bartz are not emo heroes...
Cloud is not emo either. He was perfectly fine is crisis cor, FF7 had no voices or facial signs, and anyone who played those games would know that cloud went through some tough sh*t. Add geostigma, and his attitude in Advent children is understandable. Writer probably based clouds character on Advent Children. A short CI movie....
