The 690 is actually two GPUs in SLI built together to fit into one PCIe slot. So it actually wouldn't be a fair comparison. The 680 is nvidia's card at the "same tier" as the 7970s.

That being said, it would be freaking amazing if this one card did out perform a 690.

$680 and it doesn't even equal a single GTX 680 in any benchmark? 6GB of VRAM is overboard. People can run 7Kx1600 resolutions on a pair of GTX 680s, supposedly limited by their 2GB, without running out of VRAM.

Heck, you could buy a pair of factory overclocked 7950s for that price and blow this POS out of the water in every benchmark. It's just pointless.

Yet it probably still won't max out Saints Row 3 because AMD can't be bothered to fix their drivers , switching to Nvidia in the future , at least it plays at a good stable framerate I suppose.

Too bad no software out there (game wise) will ever need that much vram or ever be optimized for this kind of card.

I don't think it's so much for playing a game, as many cheaper cards could perform just as well. It's more for playing multiple games or performing multiple takes simultaneously. For me, I won't b buying this though.

No one really needs to play multiple games at the same time. yes all that multitasking is possible but there is not a realistic need for it unless you are the 2% or less that really think they need it

Higher resolutions eats a loot of VRAM. And this babe is made for multi monitor setup, 3 is minimum, i would run 6 on this card. So 1GB for each monitor, not so much as you could think!

Yeah, I recently bought a 6870 (I always buy mid range cards, buying state of the art is just stupidly overpriced), and was disgusted at how poor the drivers perform. Not to mention the card crapped out within a few months and had to be RMA'd. I'll definitely be going Nvidia next time.

I run single sapphire 7970 card and never have any issues with ATI drivers. I just put together a new system back in the spring (its been a few years since I built a new system) so maybe in the past their drivers have been bad but everything runs stable for me.

I read more problems with people running Eyefinity (which I don't use) for certain games then anything else.

There plenty documented issues , so people around here telling me they run things without problems wont have any kind of dent on my decisions .

Meanwhile Nvidia got it's bug and issues , but it seems less widespread . Hell some of their most recents update were more about optimizing perfs and giving some additional % of framerates , than constantly dealing with game specific glitches .

Hell recently , even diablo 3 had artifacts and visual issues with some of the ati branded card , along with Antialiasing probs . I believe it's now fixed in beta drivers .

Add in a more intresting handle of
3D , on nvida's side , and i'm not looking back for a long while .

In ATI's defense, their open 3D standard is convenient. I don't like having to use Nvidia compatible 3D monitors, I can just hook up to my 3DTV and go with ATI. However, the drivers have been very unstable for me. Many times the CCC won't even open at all, other times the save button to make changes will not work. Add in the glitches in certain games as described above, and the fact that the card has already crapped out on me... Yeah, back to Nvidia.
