Alan Wake was easily my favorite first-party title this generation.

Alan Wake was 3rd party....

Remedy developed the title under the Microsoft banner.

It is a Microsoft game studios title, as far as the 360 version went.

The only thing they didn't have a part in was the much later released PC release - a version that was originally being developed under Microsoft as well - though was dropped.

The developer later finished and self-released the pc version.

It most definitely is a first-party Microsoft release, however. Remedy holds the rights to the Alan Wake license, but I believe Microsoft has a contract with Remedy to keep future Alan Wake release exclusive to the 360. Possible releases for the pc as well, obviously.

I've never heard a game called 1st party based on it's publisher. Remedy is not a Microsoft 1st or 2nd party studio so the game is 3rd party. MGS published Ninja Gaiden and Bioshock but that doesn't make them 1st party games, even if they owned the IPs, which they don't for those said games and Alan Wake. When talking about 1st, 2nd, or 3rd party it's always about the developers.

Alan Wake 2 is Where the Franchise Needs to go

Welcome back Link Cable Gaming fans, by far one of my favourite surprises of the Game Awards was the surprise announcement of Alan Wake 2. Alan Wake developed by Remedy Entertainment, and released in May 2010 on the Xbox 360, Alan Wake 2 will finally be brought back. While we were treated just this year to the surprise Alan Wake Remastered earlier in October 2021, or Alan Wake’s American Nightmare in February 2012, fans never got a true sequel. What will the future of the Alan Wake franchise look like?

Perfect! a sequel that will remind me of the smell of mildew and damp coffee grounds with a side of deadly premonition.

Where else would the franchise go? Seems like a sure thing. American Nightmare should be in the remake though.

You know I was thinking alternatives right?
For all it could have been, you know how the sequel market is sometimes, weird spin - offs, spiritual successors, reimagining, a VR walking simulator (bleh) and all that.
I like the idea of an evolved sequel way more

I guess Alan Wake got a redesign lol.
Because I thought it was Jared Leto lol
