Chris Buffa (Modojo): If you somehow missed playing the Angry Birds games and want to see what the fuss is about, the newly announced Angry Birds Trilogy seems like a great place to start. Coming soon to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and 3DS, the compilation includes three franchise titles: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio. Why Rovio Entertainment chose to leave out Angry Birds Space is a mystery. Too soon?
Why pay $14.99~$29.99 for the retail version of this game when you can pay 0.99 for each game or even get it for free on android phones? I can't see the logic, so I will probably spend this money buying Assassin's Creed or a true gaming experience for my vita and get Angry Birds (which is a casual game) for free on my android phone.
I agree, Angry Birds is a pretty lame game that is seemingly designed to make sure any skill in the game has little impact.
For most levels what you need to do it pretty obvious, but due to poor controls and random consequences it's largely a case of luck as to whether you get 3 stars.
I have completed the original game and the problem is that even if you overcome crappy controls and fire the exact same shot you don't get the exact same result. You can prove this by firing the exploding or expanding birds. You can fire them so that they roll to a stop before exploding and you will see the results can be drastically different even though the situation is identical.
So to complete the game you end up doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. That is a common definition of insanity :)
I would play a free game like Treasures of Montezuma Blitz over Angry Birds on the Vita any day.
Could have been the start of real budget titles hitting the Vita too.
Yet you saying it's a crappy game because its free doesn't make it crap either. Sure you don't have to like to but that doesn't make it crap.
I don't like AC series but is it crap I would think not.
I can think of a guy who was burnt in a fire for saying earth moves around the sun. He was right and millions wrong. Not always most people are right...
Angry birds is a crapsicle of a game and the embodiment of all that is wrong with gaming!
Angry bird has not of the fllowing:
-DLC
-Online Passes
-DRM
-Unfinished games
-Lackluster Online Servers
-Over Priced
The true embodiment what is wrong with gaming. But $.99 mobile app is killing gaming correct? Of course couldn't agree with you more!! /s
Its success is reflective of how much power the casual market has gained in the gaming industry, and it's the worst possible thing that can happen to gaming: while developers and publishers are currently fattening themselves on casual funds, few of them are looking ahead to when the general populace turns their eye elsewhere, and that money stops coming in. Already, we see developers complaining about money they're not making, as if they're somehow entitled to that money; that can be largely attributed to the money they've seen rolling in from the casual market, and now they're looking for more ways to get money out of people.
And all the stuff you mentioned is allowed to continue not because gamers like you and me(well, gamers like me, anyway) allow it, but because we're outnumbered by the casual crowd that doesn't give a damn one way or another.
So yes, you can say that Angry Birds and the runaway success it's become is the embodiment of all that is wrong with gaming.
There are no rules to what a game is. Is Heavy Rain a game? Was Myst on the PC a game? How about Lumines?
So for me to read from people who tell me what a game is is laughable. The real problem is some people fear change, that's all there is to it and because of that fear we see ignorance towards it. They want a console like the Playstation 3 to strive and things to not change. Sony are no longer just competeting with Nintendo so now people like Hicken vent towards everyone outside of this bubble, mainly Microsoft. Go read up on how involved he is with the Vita. He's very upset it's not selling as well as he had hoped while disregarding devices like tablets. People have moved on. Maybe one of the reasons why Sony is in such dissaray financially is they too were slow to adapt. Thinking their prior history will keep carrying them.
Anything that has the interaction from a person can be classified as a game and people are entitled to enjoy whatever it is they want to. So if they choose to buy Angry Birds over some JRPG too bad.
We live in an era of choice yet why are so many people on forums such whiners? Sounds like a generation of self-entitlement. No wonder why we have so many teenagers now who are so lazy and never want to leave home. They think everyone owes them something while ignoring just how good they actually have it.
Look around people. We live in a generation where we have Steam, the XBOX 360, the Playstation 3, IOS devices, Vita, 3DS, other PC services (like Desura, Origin, GOG). Single player games, multiplayer games, games with both single player and multiplayer. The indie scene is alive and well on PSN, XBOX Live, Steam and so on. There are games that cost $60 all the way down to being free. There's also MMO games that players can play. Now compare that to 20 years ago. That'll be the day i allow some troll to have his negativity have any impact of my own enjoyment of gaming. There's actually too much content out there.
People like Hicken don't know how to put things into perspective because their whole agenda is to be negative to anything outside of what Sony promotes. They never like others to point out just how good we really have it, that takes away his power because he thinks being on N4G 24 hours a day gives him a powerful voice. What's really happening is those who matter aren't listening and he seems to get more and more frustrated as time goes on. So he amps up the amount of comments he makes thinking that drowning people out and flooding the forums is the answer.
Really i could give a crap about stupid time waster games like this on my vita. Give me a some shooters and some action/adventure games mabey even some gran turismo and im good, you know "real" games.
Angry Birds hits PSP/PS3 as PlayStation mini game
when you already have angry birds, not much to worry about!
it is a PSP/ps3 mini
Probably not, but that camel will croak soon.
EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT BUFFA IS NOT PROFESSIONAL OR UNBIAS .
HE IS A NINTENDO FANBOY.
SO JUST DO LIKE I DO '
STOP READING HIS STUPID ARTICLES
But seriously the game gets old extremely quickly.
XperiaRay
Why arent developers supporting the Vita? Especially when an obvious game like Angry Birds fits the Vitas touch screen functions, doesn't get a look in.
This is an extremely relevant point. A point of where me as a Vita owner would say, if the sales don't increase, the developers will waste their money making games that wont sell that well.
I would never buy Angry Birds (especially forte stupid asking price they want) but developers would probably say that out of the 3million Vita owners, what percentage would buy the game? 7% perhaps (just a guess of course), if that is the case, that is a horrible amount of sales.
However for the other machines that 7% (keeping it relevant) would be far more profitable because of number of machines sold.
Vita needs sales or devs and publishers wont bother!
"Vita needs sales or devs and publishers wont bother! "
REPLACES the Word VITA WITH [ps3] year from year 2006 to 2007 needs sales or devs and publishers wont bother!
aaah every thing is good in the universe, the PS3 is no longer on the market and is not getting anymore software made for it....
OH' wait a min.
LMAO
Vita doesn't need Angry Birds it's got far better small games already like Super Stardust Delta!
Also, who is actually considering paying more than $1 for this game on consoles or 3DS? Be mad about paying $3-$5 for the same s*** Android owner get for free...
Playstation owners should be mad Borderlands 2 won't be on Vita....not this crap.
