This seemingly ambitious project is one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns ever, but a successful fundraising campaign doesn’t necessarily mean success in the living room.
Making quite a splash, Ouya (pronounced “ooh-yah”) reached its $950,000 Kickstarter goal within its first 24 hours. More than 22,000 people have donated a grand total of $3.1 million so far, and the campaign remains open until Aug. 9. Such initial interest would seem to guarantee success. Could Ouya be a radical fork from the traditional console model, invigorating the games industry, or is it 21st-century snake oil?
