Batman Arkham City is to receive a prequel on next-gen platforms, which is developed by Rocksteady studios, according to new information revealed today. It will also be set in the Silver Age of the Batman franchise.
i Wonder what prompt them to do a prequal instead hmmmmmm.
Two concerns with this 1) who will voice the joker now that mark hammil has retired the role 2) hopefully the dark tone is maintained, I really love that about the Arkham games and the modern comics so does this mean big ass arkham county is not happening? :(
Maybe they'll try for someone who can sound like Cesar Romero. That was silver age, wasn't it?
The guy who voiced Joker in the animated Red Hood movie didn't do a bad job in my opinion, get him to do it eh?
Build more popularity with justice league like Lego batman 2 for the justice league movie
Love the sound of this - a more colourful, retro action game could be awesome. Throw in the origin story and a 1960s graphic novel visual style and I'll be happy.
Awesome, Adam West voice work please.
Kevin connroy for life >:(
Christian Bale. So excited for next week.
I was just thinking that. I had to Ctrl+F to see if anyone else thought that too haha
A prequel...awww Leave prequels for the spin off games or other types of media, I hate it when games/films do two installments then for the third on in the trilogy do a prequel. Hopefully this isn't true...I want to see a sequel to finish of the Arkham trilogy and is set in Gotham City.
Experiencing Batman's fist encounter with the Joker and other villains could make for a really interesting experience, but I hope they stretch the events out if they go in that direction (give us day and night cycles, maybe let us switch to Bruce during the day, etc.). Dealing with a ton of villains over a single night again might be a little hard to justify.
Day and night cycles? Batman does his best work in the dark.... Unless you want to play as bruce Wayne, but how could they make his gameplay interesting?
i would love to run wayne enterprises and play a game about the stock market :/ (sarcasm)
How about playing as Matches Malone?
Go see lucious fox and get more and more gatches from him for the night?? You assign him bits of the costume or gadgets be fucking coool
or i could skip the whole luscious fox thing since its long boring and unecessary.... and click a button in the menu.. or have a character toss it to me :)
Agree - you'd definitely want day-time sections, and the idea of being Wayne at events, in the bat-cave and stuff is awesome.
That kinda sux. I dont want to see a game about batman and the joker first meeting. Ill be honest rocksteady makes some awesome games and there joker looks great and sounds great. Problem is when it comes to their storytelling.. the jokers overall "plan" just doesnt seem very special or thought out... Spoilers below------------ First game to inject himself with titan and become huge... for what? 2nd game... didnt really seem to have a plan other then bring in clayface (seems like the easy way out from a writing perspective)... I prefer a more realistic or well written plan to give you that "i cant beleive i missed that" feeling...They can learn a thing or 2 from nolans joker. Lets not forget the cheesy ending from arkham city where instead of carrying out his dead lover talia body.. he is instead carrying out the jokers body.. They say hes sad about talia in the DLC, but he chooses to carryout the joker. He didnt even like the joker.. he just never wanted to kill him. And he never did. Joker screwed himself over... so what the hell reason was there to carry out the jokers body? Was he his closet homosexual lover?
Is the Joker really look like the kind of guy to have a plan?
I have to agree with you on the stories. As I was playing Arkham Asylum I was expecting....something else for Joker's BIG PLAN. What happened reminded me of old style 80s games where you have a random big boss at the end that seems to have little to do with the story, I kept expecting something else to happen but it never did. I recall saying, "That's IT??" at the end. Arkham City was the same way but a bit better, but it still felt like they just didn't know what to do at the end. One more thing...IMO The Dark Knight's joker wasn't right. He worked as a realistic type of joker I suppose, but something was missing it seemed.
Show us the origins of Batman, Bruce Wayne training abroad and have him thrown through the meat grinder by his first encounter with Joker and Rocksteady could have the makings of a classic on its hands. Very good way to handle an origin story. Colour me excited.
Silver Age? Will it have a Brave and the Bold flaire?
Hmmmm.... Id rather them not go the route of MGS and throw in a prequel right when everyone is expecting a sequel. but then again, MGS3 is my favorite of them all, and Rocksteady is very talented. Who know. Really was looking forward to taking on Gotham City. Maybe we still can.
dont know if it's a good move but i know that they very much know what their doing, anyway their making it epic too bad i thought i'll going to see the continuation of arkham city on 2014
I like the idea ! Maybe a prequel to start off with next gen then Gothman City as there follow up Arkam City,,,
It's kind of a weird move considering they seemed to have been developing a story to continue onward into another game. I have a feeling Warner Bros. pushed them to do this.
Kinda dissapointed. I honestly wanted to see what happened after Arkham city, and I wish it was this gen.
I don't like the idea of Justice League in Batman. The last time they did that The Batman catoon started being less good.
2 thumbs up.
As exciting as that sounds imagine what they could do if they made a video-game based on another superhero. Anyhow, I hope they add a ton of content and characters in the next game.
Gotta be honest here. I love DC comics and have over 18 subs of the new 52. I even read Batwing for Christ's sake. I trust Rocksteady and would love to see them do the Justice League, especially since Joss Whedon pretty much owned all DC movies with the Avengers. But.. The Silver Age of DC comics were terrible imo. That's 1955-1970ish. If they're taking it back old school, go back to the Golden Age with Bob Kane's Batman. That f***er was hardcore. Carried two pistols and shot people cowboy style. Silver Age was mostly forgettable. Catered too much to children imo. More colorful and cartoony just does not sound like a good idea for Batman, even if they throw in the Justice League. How about they make Batman Year One instead? Or JLA year one. Would be awesome.
wont someone do batman year one(greatest batman comic of all time)or even dark knight returns
Rocksteady, take a close look at his physique and take note, Batman isnt supposed to look like he is juiced and jacked up 24-7. Batman looks so absurd in these games that its damned near a distraction. Other than that the games are awesome, but this is one thing that bugs the hell out of me, but apparently no one else.
No, no you are not the only one. Not only was batman insanely buffed, but if I remember right Gordon looked that way too in Arkham Asylum. Yeah Batman is in shape, but come on it looks like his suit is about to explode or something.
