Tekken Dev Claims He Said Two Screens For Wii U Can Be “Difficult,” Not ‘Distracting’

It was reported yesterday that Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada said that using two screens for Wii U fighting games can be distracting. Earlier today, Harada claimed that he did not say ‘distracting’ but instead said the word ‘difficult’ when referring to the Wii U GamePad and its connectivity with the TV screen.

What, you mean the gaming press at large is full of bullshit? Shit man... I had NO idea!!

Well, nice to know the man was misquoted. Again.

EDIT: I expected as much. The Wii U pad's screen is largely unconventional. I'd expect it to be a challenge to develop on.

See gaming journalist are all about the 'hits' & traffic to their sites rather than deliver insightful CORRECT news.

I think Harada should use the smaller screen on the tablet controller to show the move list for the character the player is using, rather than showing the actual fighting. It will be useful for newcomers to the fighting genre. Just a suggestion.

There was a quick move/combo setting on the 3DS version of Street Fighter IV that I liked. I'm kind of hoping a similar mechanic is applied to Tekken Tag 2.

Yeah it would be nice to get to know the moves right away rather than having to pause the game & looking at it in the options.

I remember being new to BlazBlue & having to do that for the longest time until i got use to the characters move set. I know that this function will be useless for veteran players though so finding that middle ground will be difficult. Actually as well as the move sets the screen can also display 'combos' like those in those challenge modes.

It'd be great for trial modes, but to have the movelist sitting in your face during tournaments, i can see it being distracting.

It'd be awesome if the wii u screen showed the health bar, so it's like the opponent doesn't know how much health is there so they have to be smart. That'd be a cool variant to try out.

"Interesting" and "Intelligent"!

Great ideas!
I think companies keep looking for some EPIC use of the second screen but they forget about the practical things they could use it for because they are afraid hearing "Gimmick".

How the heck is making a game slightly easier to play/navigate a gimmick?

It's like DOS(2) vs. Windows up in here!

Well he wouldn't even have to clarify himself if he was busy working on something!
