Top Ten Games So Far In 2012

Dealspwn: Halfway through 2012, now that the E3 backlog has been shifted, it's time to take stock of the past six months. We've had games aplenty and, although it seems everyone's saving nearly all of their big guns for the winter gridlock, the first half of the year has seen some fantastic games. Here are our highlights from 2012 thus far...

Honourable Mentions

Diablo III - It finally arrived, and is awesome. Apart from the DRM. And the lack of a proper end-game. And the fact that it was built around an auction house. And the fact that it wasn't properly stocked. And the persistent connection issues.

But that aside, Diablo III is absolutely brilliant.

Sine Mora - The alliance between Digital Reality and Grasshopper Manufacture yield an absolute cracker early this year with a steampunk SHMUP that managed to breathe some new life into a classic genre.

Top 10 games of 2012 and Diablo III is only an honorable mention. Really? It's one of the only games I bought this year.

Congrats to Journey being #1 as it's truly the best game released this year so far and has the highest metascore at of ANY exclusive this year with a 92.

I think Trials Evolution was only 1% behind Journey and it was reviewed by more people. It also sold better, so I guess its all relative huh?

I'm with fermcr. These may have been the best games that you've PLAYED, but far from the best games of 2012.

Skyrim? Spec Ops: The Line? There are many more, but so many great games not on that list.

Skyrim is undoubtedly one of the best games I've played this year...but it was released in 2011.

Spec Ops, Max Payne 3, TSW, Trials, Heroes of Ruin, Dear Esther would have made a top 20 along with the honourable mentions.

I was skeptical of Dragons dogma and did not reserve it. That was a mistake, I freaking love this game and lost sleep playing it. It is very very good.

Going to get some disagrees on this one. But The Secret World should have been on that list. It is a very good game!

Vessel is an awesome unique puzzle game , it's worth giving the demo a shot on steam , not a very demanding either :D

Xbox LIVE Arcade has provided some of the best experiences so far this year with Fez, Trials Evolution, Spelunky, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. Microsoft has just been knocking it out of the park with XBLA this year. It's exciting!

mass effect 3, dragons dogma, max payne 3, star hawk, prototype 2, future soldier, witcher 2, kingdoms of amular...cant name any others that were even worth a rent or purchase other than these really, retail wise.

out of all 2012 games ive played there hasnt even been a total of 10 i could pick...these are the only ones in my opinion that were good so far. out of all the so so, yes prototype is a must have game lol theres nothing really like it. its pure destruction

Journey and Gravity Rush I can see. With all the controversy surrounding Mass Effect, I wouldn't add it. I haven't played Fez(and won't, as I won't be supporting a douchebag developer), but I hear it's good, so that one's okay. The rest of the games I've never even heard of.

i really wish dragons dogma had fast travel like skyrim... Walking all across the map Feels like a chore sometimes...

Journey was a really good game! I think it's even better when you play it with another person. It's short but very satisfying.
