OMG, exercise games aren’t a miraculous cure-all?

Over the past week, several major media outlets have reported on a recent study in which researchers took a close look at the way that children are affected by video games that emphasize physical activity. Not surprisingly, this is another case of an experiment with a rather narrow scope being reported and headlined in such a way that suggests more far-reaching conclusions than the study itself can draw. (Culture, Wii, Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort)

I think it's probably safe to just ignore most studies about video games...odds are the results will be very obvious and major media outlets will turn them into some stupid sensationalist story.

I doubt Nintendo created these games with the idea that it would completely replace regular exercise. This is just a fun way for the kids to get moving even if they are in the house and possibly get them to want to move around more, meaning exercise. That is one of the problems with getting children to exercise. "its not fuuuuuuuun" "i wanna play video gaaaames today" Well then make the video games a bit active and keep it charming and entertaining, then they might want to go play some basketball and so on. People took the intention of wii fit and the like much too seriously.
