Wow, once again PS3 software is brutal.. come on Japan! Should see a fairly big jump next week with Disgaea 3 and DMC4 though.

True... the xbox 360 hardware is doing bad in Japan... but still it's selling 4 or 5 times more software than hardware... now when it comes to the PS3... not even 2 games per console... I wonder if half of the people buying a PS3 are using it only as a blu-ray player... the same with the wii..

It seems in the US people are more into online over the networks and Morpg. Most of these are household connections located in a gameroom or living area. In US less people tend to run around with pocket consoles. In JPN the wireless internet is everywhere so people treat handhelds like we treat cell phones and ipods.

I can understand why they're so popular just imagine the unstall base of all the USA cell phone market and then consider the possibility that if only 2 portable cell phone options where avalible what the total install base would be for each of those.

Fairly amazed. I don't get the Wii fit craze overthere. Dance Dance revoltion was more interesting IMHO.

Poor destop consoles getting hurt this generation by handhelds in Japan because people want portability there over high end next gen gaming. T.T

@bladestar, it's pretty easy to get a high attach ratio in Japan when your console gives away 2 free games and has an install base of 500k.

lilwingman3826d ago

I'm a PS3-only gamer, but that is quite possibly the most flawed logic I have ever heard. Install base and attach rate have no relevance to one another. Compared to the PS3, the 360 is selling much better in terms of software. The PS3's s.w. sales are abysmal right now. PS3 sold just over one game per console, while 360 sold more than 4.

I own the PS3 and Wii as my avatar shows. I believe the problem with the PS3 right now is that, the games PS owners are accustomed to aren't readily available. What are the highest selling games on the PS3? Some form of shooter...we prefer driving, JRPG/RPG, Action, Adventure games. Everything that has been worth a damn of GOOD QUALITY has been shooting games. PS3 is hurting in the software variety as this time.

Don't get me wrong and say we don't have a title in every category. That is not what I'm saying at all. Its just the quality of the games are lacking.

"I wonder if half of the people buying a PS3 are using it only as a blu-ray player... the same with the wii.."

Looking at the Wii target audience I wouldn't be surprised if they bought the Wii for the "blu-ray player". lol

When I read the japan chart, I think they don't like next gen or they not ready for it.
Do they car about graphic or do they care for gameplay?

Sarick3826d ago

The Wii and the handhelds dominance in Japan continues to amaze me.

DSL: 164 91,663 (-11%)
Wii: 60 73,050 (-13%)

lol now I understand...the 164 and the 60 are in another column. I almost thought the DSL sold 16 mil and the Wii sold 6 mil...

Cyrus3653826d ago

Whoops, the 164, and 60 are the amount of weeks it's been in japan.
