The truth about New Super Mario Bros.

There’s a lot of hubub around the two New Super Mario Bros. games coming out this year. Tony wrote an awesome piece on why he thinks their copy-and-paste design is a failure. Reggie has come out saying that the fans can’t be pleased even though the Wii U is launching with a Mario game. People love their Mario games, but these NSMB titles seem to have them a bit down. There’s a lot of angst over these suckers even though most of us readily admit that they’re probably going to be fun to play and well received on the whole.

Here’s the problem: no one is right about the NSMB series. Well, to be more precise, the fans are treating them incorrectly and Reggie is being deceptive about them. You see, we’re coming at these games from the totally wrong angle. The fans are treating NSMB as main series Mario games, which is exactly what Nintendo wants us to believe.

The trick is they aren’t. (3DS, New Super Mario Bros., Nintendo DS, Wii, Wii U)

I see where he's coming from. These games are supposed to satisfy fans of the classic 2D games. The 3D platformers are the big hitters for each console generation.

I reckon this upcoming NSMB for Wii U was made to basically satisfy Mario fans while we wait for the Wii U's killer app Mario game.

Galaxy never had a chance against 2d Mario and you know it.

If these are copy and paste sequel then I shall beat them very easily. That may not happen though.

Yet I'll have to play it to see. Art wise there isn't much I'm excited about. Maybe retro can fix that.

good read.. It works a bit tho for NSMB.. A shift from last gen to current.. 1 on DS then 3ds.. 1 on wii then wii u.. But its too much for me.. them games shouldnt be anymore than $30 but they slap a full retail price on em.. Hell, the originals are still up there in price like most nintendo games

The "NEW" series has always obviously been a bit of a spinoff. It just has so much less effort put into it than its 3D counterparts. Very fun of course, but neither game feels like a full-on Mario effort like SMW, SM64, etc.

Give me a Super Mario 64 sequel and I will be happy.
