The removing of the backwards compatibility was a rather crappy move on their part, if you ask me.

1) Games
2) Games
3) Games
4) Games
5) Games

It is a games console after all.

Seeing as it's Sony I have no worries about them providing these 5 features!
jessupj  +   343d ago
Yup, Sony always delivers on games. I had no worries when I bought my PS3 early on, and I'll be calm as a cucumber when I buy my PS4.

I could do with a ps4 right now as my old fat 60 has just kicked the bucket yesterday but i'll be more than happy with another ps3. Well i say kicked the bucket I've got a 500 gig HD installed with 144 games on it but it wont let me play any of them even though there all showing up on the xmb but I can access all of my movies and photos, pretty weird anyone else had this problem oh yeah and a gd web browser would be on the top of my list for ps4 as the ps3 web browser sux.

You might have to deactivate your old PS3, or ring up tech support and get them to do it since it's broken. Then you can activate your current PS3 to access your games.
Fil101  +   343d ago
yeah I've been in touch and they told me the only thing I could do was a factory reset so i'm backing all my stuff up now as we speak but i've got a bad feeling that this aint gonna work but nothing lasts forever and as i've had it since release it's served it purpuse very well and i'm more than happy to go and buy another 1.

#5- I don't think you are going to have that killer game withing it's first two years but it will definately come.

#4- I doubt it is going to happen since rumors of departing from Cell and that they can just re-sell their consumers the games and they will buy.

#3- It's either Sony learns how to make affordable hardware or they just fall behind.

#2- I personally think the controller needs to be slightly bigger with better triggers but other than that it is gold.

#1- It needs to be a multimedia device that plays games. Just being a primary gaming console isn't going to sell anymore. It needs to be an all in one media living room box. What sells these systems will be appeal.

I cant speak for everyone here but if the ps4 is 500$+ Ill pay up if its powerful and have decent launch games.

I feel like the ps3 is the best product I have bought til this day, its a very decent allround device.
And it still is an excellent media machine, only minor flaws like being Fat 32 format and not supporting MKV... but that is more than what I can say for the 360 wich is more of a streaming service hub. for media I find the 360 pretty useless but I expect it to change with the "720", seeing how casual and Media oriented MS is these days it might turn out to be a very good media device.

Anyways I dont expect the ps4 to be less awesome than the Ps3.

Sonys latest statements and Sonys latest actions still indicates that Ps4 will be powerful, rich on features and have a steady flow of first party games.
Just like Ps3.

All I want to add is that I want PS4 to have a fast SSD drive to boost games and system performance and experience.
Im not huge on downloading games, though Im very much for partial install and for everygame to have a full install option.

I'd be very okay with SSD if I can backup what I need easily and uppgrade the drive to one with greater capacity later on.

For media I will be using streaming and External storage devices... except for Music. Loading huge playlists of music (Especially while playing!) through USB or network can take ages wich is why I store music locally on all my devices.

Except the 360 since the only way to get music on it is to burn music to a disc and select the rip option once you have inserted it to the 360 tray... major hassle.
360 cant even load one (atleast) of my playlists for reasons unknown but there is a shit load of songs on it. Like 100-150 songs but the ps3 does it without breaking a sweat. 360 is generally SLOW to load big playlists from usb.

I'm sorry but what in the world are you talking about.

Your comment just screams crazy fanboy to the max. That wasn't even a reply to what I said that was a rant about why you feel the PS3 is better than Xbox 360.

Now, I'm happy you enjoy that PS3 and it has served you well and better than a 360 could but stay on topic please.

If you want to spend 500+ for the console sure be my guess but that isn't good business and enough people aren't going to spend that when the compeition is selling it for $200 cheaper and is comparable in hardware.
RevXM  +   343d ago
Sorry it came out in a way, but I did reply to your comment.

Granted 80% of my comment is a rant.
However I didnt intend to bash the 360, I stated it is not as good as a media center. Every system has its faults and 360 certainly has it pros over ps3, but pure media functionality is not one of them. Ps3 social features are shit compared to 360, which also plays music in the bacground to every game. But most likely next gen Ps4 will do what 360 did right and xbox will do what Ps3 did right.

As for business ps3 have sold about the same as 360 every year it have been out despite being more expensive. I think true gamers are good bussiness and a reliable market if you can give them what they want.

And how many on here today prefers the 360 or Ps3 to the wii? (not bashing the wii just trying to make a point that there is a market for High end consoles)

Its evident a lot of people on here do and those systems are a lot more expensive.
And how on earth would a system for 200 bucks be comparable to one at 500 bucks?
That doesnt make sense to me.
If you find that the Wii and Ps3 is comparable to each other then you are lost.

"And how on earth would a system for 200 bucks be comparable to one at 500 bucks?"
"That doesnt make sense to me.
If you find that the Wii and Ps3 is comparable to each other then you are lost."

1. The differnce between Wii and PS3 was $350. So your response makes no sense. They aren't compareable because he wasn't refering to a $350 differnce.

2. How can you have comparable technology and cost $200 less. Well ask Xbox 360 how they pulled it off.

"As for business ps3 have sold about the same as 360 every year it have been out despite being more expensive. I think true gamers are good bussiness and a reliable market if you can give them what they want."

Let's say even if that was the case it isn't good business selling your device for a lost for such that long period. So even if they outsold 360 they lost more money then gained. And business wise it is no secret MS wins. They print money... /s

And what is a true gamer? What does that even mean? Anybody who games whether they are gaming Angry Birds or a MMO is a true gamer.

"And how many on here today prefers the 360 or Ps3 to the wii?"

PS3 considering this site is pretty Sony driven and loved and talking down about Sony in anyway is taboo but going to a Nintendo centric site you would ask the opposite.

No mandatory Installs, and constant updates.
neutralgamer19  +   343d ago
Yes mandatory installs are annoying. I want a better browser, something really fast. I want more memory so the ps4 can multitask well.
level 360  +   343d ago
Hope they could design and build a better and slightly bigger control pad.

A very large hard drive storage capacity should be the norm.
RevXM  +   343d ago
I wouldnt mind a larger controller.
But Id much rather have a SSD than a slow ass Hard drive in my next gen system.

SSD with decent capacity for a couple dowloads and install should be the standard at launch.
Larger capacity models will come and SSD's will become cheaper.

SSD will boost games performances, reduce loading and install times drastically and make the system more smooth to use.

160-450 GB Low-High end models should do just fine.
For movies and such I use external storage anyways.
Im more for the performance and experience. Its a gaming console first and foremost and with such great talent and focus on games ps4 really deserves the best hardware Sony can afford to squeese in it.

People are so negative towards SSD it seems, and that is not fair IMO. in comparison to what BD was back then SSD is already established tech, its growing in popularity and prices are dropping as performance is getting better.

Better with 240 GB SSD than 2 slow terabytes to clutter your system with junk. With time there will be more games to install, and bigger drives at an affordable sensible price.
