PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale: How Are Characters Chosen And Who Decides The Lineup?

More details regarding Superbot Entertainment’s new PS3 exclusive fighter have surfaced from yesterday’s panel discussion during EVO 2012.

The studio explained why Tekken’s Heihachi Mishima and SCEJ mascot Toro were chosen for the game, how they go about selecting characters and how much influence SBE has over the process.

i guess that makes sense, but still...I strongly feel they should focus on bringing characters associated with playstation Sony owned franchises and less on third party ones. I mean what this says is that Sony has no iconic characters of its own, when the reality is they do have a fair amount of iconic characters of its own.

I mean i know they haven't announced the full roster yet, but just over 20 characters doesn't give me much hope. I mean there is...

I would love to know why a Big Daddy was added... Toro is an official mascot, Heihachi, even if I don't agree with him, was on a game that really helped the PS1 become a worldwide brand... but, why a Big Daddy?!

I actually like Big Daddy as a character, they did a good job translating him, but the game definitely needs the usual suspects that make up the PlayStation brand

I guesisng it falls under "characters that are popular/niche"
and
cool character, Sony and the 2K team behind Bioshock seem to have a tight relationship after Bioshock Infinite. So I'm guessing that's the main reason.

IF you want to go with niche, loads of characters from JRPGs available on PS Systems can be added in the roster, same with popular, Big Boss, Snake, Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa, Leon, Jill, Dante, Crash, Ratchet, Jak, Dax, Sir Daniel Fortesque........ and so on....

Big Daddy is not a characater you can identify with PlayStation and the franchise is pretty new, so I don't know... maybe Bioshock Vita related...

Bioshock is one of my favorite games, so I can totally look past him not being directly associated with Sony. But he is a cool character in a unique world. Add the fact that Sony and irrational are having a tighter relationship, and I can see the justification. I've heard really balls to the walls characters like batman and isaac Clarke, so I like the opportunity to have different characters. I'm sure many of the characters on the roster will be directly associated with Sony, but some characters will need to be popular to interest a newer generation.

I hope who ever decides is listening and considering at least some of our ideas. Sir Dan, Spyro and Crash. A combination or any one of these three would be nice. We need at least another swordsman besides Kratos and at least one more PS1 platformer

Big Daddy is just a single character out of about twenty plus characters and it's slap in the face? They obviously had their reasons why they wanted Big Daddy. Do you think they just woke up one day and said 'Hey lets piss everyone off by choosing Big Daddy'. Who cares? You have twenty more to choose from drama queen.Nintendo chose Sonic and Snake two characters that really have nothing to do with Nintendo and people didn't gripe so much.

The game director pretty much says that not having Big Daddy would limit the experience.
They don't want their criteria to be too tight when making character decisions.
But there are still many aspects to be considered during the selection.

should have made up their own characters and name the game battle royale! the gameplay alone is very interesting however some of the characters that are playable like parappa the rappa and nathan drake just makes the game to me a big question.

I'll barrow this game before I'll buy it.
