Club Nintendo Gifts Suck Less Now That You Can Download a Free Game

It happens every July: Club Nintendo announces its loyalty gifts for members who reached gold or platinum status in the past year, and everyone craps all over them. Well, if you don't want another poster or desk calendar (and I quite enjoy mine, thank you very much) now you may pick a free game from the Wii Virtual Console or the 3DS eShop. (3DS, Nintendo, Wii, Wii U)

I got the cards, they are plastic, semi transparent and mario themed.

I went with the calendar. Needed a new one for 2013 anyway.

Just downloaded Majora's Mask. Nice excuse to play it again :D

I got Super Mario Kart and LoZ MM for free so I agree 100%.

How did you get both? 2 accounts?
homer  +   318d ago
No. They were separate rewards for different months. You can get both if you have the points.
Oh whoops, they were gold rewards too? I got them when they were normal point rewards.

Who in their right mind would select a game? They're not special or unique like the other prizes and the other items are worth more. I find it hard to believe you can't find SOMEONE who would buy the cards for 15, which can buy you practically any digital Nintendo game you wanted.

I have little to no interest in those items, and I have no interest in trying to pedal them to someone else like a flea market vendor for some tiny amount of money either. On the other hand, having a game that I've always loved on my Wii makes it personally more valuable to me. It also gives me a way to play this classic game without hooking up my old N64. To each his own right?

Bottom line? These gifts from Nintendo, even the games are small gestures of good will. Even though I'm not all that interested in any of them, I accept what I find most appealing, tip my cap to them, and say thanks. Now if in 20 years one of those silly items are worth a lot of money I'll laugh and kick myself for not having the foresight to select it. But whatever...

Er... most of 'em still suck.

The posters are really nice, though. Much higher quality than any of the other crap they offer.
