Rumor Patrol: ‘Eternal Darkness 2′ for Wii U Cancelled by Nintendo

It looks like more bad news for Dennis Dyack’s Silicon Knights, the once great game studio most recently responsible for the roundly panned X-Men: Destiny. Late last month, Silicon Knights lost its protracted court battle with Epic Games, and now rumors are spreading that the developer’s current project — Eternal Darkness 2 for the Wii U — has been cancelled by Nintendo. (Dev, Eternal Darkness 2, Next-Gen, Nintendo, Wii U)

The first game is a classic.

Absolutely . This was one of the best games of last gen and made owning a Gamecube worthwhile. I bought a Wii and had to force myself to play it before finally admitting to myself I just hated the controllers and there was no getting around it. ED2 would make me seriously consider getting a Wii U. Let's hope this game sees the light of day. If not on the Wii U, perhaps it could find a home on another platform?

I'm willing to give it a try if they decide to release it on the Wii U's Virtual Console.

Hope this isn't true, ED2 could go a long way in proving how "core" the Wii U intended to be. Loved the first game, still have it for my Gamecube.

hell yeah. that game was great and an ED2 would go a long way in making me want a wiiu

I would of bought a Wii-U for this game.
Bad move if this is true.

well i would definitely like to see a sequel, but considering how terrible silicon knights is doing at the moment, maybe there is a good reason for this supposed cancelation

I hope this isnt true

I knew about this a while ago
If you're upset about this news, you all can thank Epic games for crippling Silicon Knights, and forcing Nintendo to put the ED2 sequel, on hold.
GillHarrison  +   655d ago
X-Men: Destiny and Too Human would like a word with you. Taking Epic to court was a bad move and they set themselves up for easy counter-sue. Silicon Knights seemed to be the only company who had trouble with the Unreal Engine 3 at the time.

im sure its true.. But hey, why put out a game that wont sell much?
Smokingunz  +   655d ago
What a damn shame! That was such a great game! I still got it! So u mean to tell me nintendo can't just help out by paying the 10 million!? Come on! That is so lame. I'm pretty sure silicon knights studios is worth more than 10 million. This is just ridiculous. Screw u epic!!
GillHarrison  +   655d ago
Silicon Knights is in a financial hole, I'm surprised they still even exist.

This rumor is so old and Dennis Dyack even came out in an interview and said that it wasn't true.
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   654d ago
Not that I'm doubting you but do you know when he said that or on what site the interview was posted?

It would be good to read that Silicon Knights is still doing well after losing the EPIC lawsuit.
Ck1x  +   654d ago
So here's a piece but not the full interview of what he had to say.

Thanks Ck1x!
That was Very "Helpful"!

SK is one of the developing companies for whom I root.
I wish that they were a 2nd Party again but not that they would be 100% dependent on Nintendo.

nintendo needs to start buying some studios not just paythem to make games quit being being tight asses nintendo!
