"The chance of Sony unveiling a new PlayStation 3 hardware revision at Gamescom seems to be becoming more likely every day. We’ve heard rumours ranging from vague assumptions through to today’s appearance of label positioning on a new-looking casing. The PlayStation 3 has, of course, already had a hardware revision. In fact, if you count the downgrade of the launch models to exclude PlayStation 2 disc compatibility, USB ports and memory card slots, it’s had two."
I'd like to see that transferred to the consumer.
The WiiU might be only a "360" but, if that's true - and I suspect it's very close, then Ninny could sell it at $199 from day 1 and still make profit. And at that price it'll fly off shelves. Sony can't afford to hand market share over to Ninny, so a price cut on ps3 would be very smart indeed.
I'm not sure if/how PS3 games could be implemented into it, perhaps that where Gaikai comes in. That is where a PS system with no disc drive could make sense. I don't envision Sony ever having their flagship console without a disc drive, especially at this point where so many people are mixed on cloud gaming. But that could be intriguing, especially if it could be released at a 99$-$150 price point.
$199 won't be enough of a price drop. $149 would be perfect, but it'll also have to be as small as the PS2 Slim.
