You really don't want a Final Fantasy VII remake

When it comes down to it, the cons really outweigh the pros on the idea of creating a remake. Sure the story is fantastic and, when coupled with such brilliant graphics there is no question that SquareEnix could produce something which fans of the original would love.

What we should fear though is the changes and sacrifices they would make in order to deliver a product which wouldn't be enjoyable for just fans of the series but be enough to draw in newer players.

It will never be out of the question for Square to remake the game but as a fan of the series their decision to focus on new games and trying to make their new titles overshadow Final Fantasy VII is admirable and I fully support it as a gamer. As they say "competition breeds excellence" even when you're trying to outdo yourself. (Final Fantasy, PC, PS3, Square Enix)

Can people please - PLEASE! - shut up about a F***ing remake?!
They do it they do it, they don't they don't. Given the current shape they're in they're not likely to do a decent job of it, certainly wont please everyone - AND THEY'LL TAKE *YEARS* TO MAKE IT!

Enough of this stupid pointless and empty speculation. Please!

I would be satisfied with a version that re-rendered all the backgrounds in hi-res, added a few shaders and added some proper textures to the charactermodels.

That would go a long way in making it look more ok on todays big screens.

I'm very sure SquareEnix didn't even bother to save HQ samples of the environments in the game. Such a shame.

They probably still have the scenes in maya or max or whatever they use though, so it shouldn't be a problem to re-render them in high res.

Exactly. I think it's good the way it is. No need to remake it. They should remake Chrono Trigger or FF6 instead.

man FF7 looks so terrible that is next to impossible to play without the nostalgia goggles on and that's why it needs to be remade. FF6 and Chrono Trigger are fine, neither needs any remake.

I never got to play FF7 though I have played FF7:Crisis Core which is the prequel to FF7 and it was beautiful.

I would love a remake as I'd like to live cloud's continuing story from Crisis Core ending onwards in proper graphics that suit my modern graphics conditioned brain. No offense to ppl who love FF7 graphics but I cant take it.

Its the same way I loved Neverwinter Nights 1 but today I just cant go back to playing it, modern graphics have made me demand more for immersion and older games arent immersive to me anymore. Even psp games have tried to reach that right balance between tech and art to make it immersive.

So for me FF7 remake would be a graphics overhaul completely and maybe even a combat overhaul to suit modern day gamers who arent only JRPG fans. A remake only for fans would be foolish, but to attract more to the franchise by revamping many mechanics then that may just work.
