Five Games that didn't get Enough Credit or Make Enough Money

Gaming Enthusiast looks at five games that deserved a greater response either critically or commercially. (Just Cause 2, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Nothing from Double Fine? Shocker...
Persistantthug  +   325d ago
I bought JUST CAUSE 2 last summer from Amazon, $20.....I've installed it twice,
And uninstalled it twice.

I honestly don't see where the fun is.

One of these days, I'll give it a 3rd chance.
jack_burt0n  +   325d ago
force yourself to do the story missions and use the quick travel options.

otherwise you can get caught up in doing sidequest crap for hours on end and progressing nothing.

its a great game.
t0mmyb0y  +   325d ago
Whaaaaat. I got JC2 after playing the demo for over 7 hours. Waaaay better than the first one. I logged over 70 hours and I don't normally do that with 1 game. Can't wait for #3!!
OccludedGamer  +   325d ago
I agree Just Cause 2 was a boring game. They give you endless amounts of space and nothing to do there other than repeating the same missions which had really boring structure. After flying around for an hour what else is there worth doing?
OneAboveAll  +   325d ago
Honestly, i thought it was good but it seems like one of those games that should have had some form of COOP/MP.

There is a MP mod coming out for the PC version and looks actually looks like a lot of fun.
alessandro10  +   326d ago
just cause its very fun
Gamesgbkiller  +   325d ago
Ya.
Its look huge but not engaging enough for its size.
I hope there will be JC3.
Gamesgbkiller  +   325d ago
Why the hate ?!
Its a fun game .. i realy like more than GTA IV for me .. but for the fun only .. the other thing iis not very good .
LOGICWINS  +   325d ago
It had great ideas..but its unpolished as hell. Crap story, uninteresting characters, unsatisfying driving controls, repetitive missions, overall lack of variety, oddly empty world etc.
ChocolateGiddyUp  +   325d ago
I don't see how any of this matters when you can tie a car to a helicopter and use it as a wrecking ball.
Snookies12  +   325d ago
@ChocolateGiddyUp - Hahahaha, so true my friend, so true... In the end, that's all that matters.
Menashe  +   325d ago
I guess I'll have to try the demo at least.

Took me along time to get around to Just Cause 2, but I loved it, great game.

It did feel but, a little bit like a sandbox without enough sand in it. It just needed more stuff to do and a bit less emptiness.

I wish you could do more with the tether wire and parachute as well. Someone please tell me why you cant hook up the back of a car and parasail. That seems like a no brainer.

Still awesome fun though, and anyone who hasn't played it, should.

i got just cause 2 for free off of ps+ but havent try it out yet. Ico was a no brainer for me back during the PS2 era it was my type of game along with Okami, and SotC.
darkride66  +   325d ago
I`m just grabbing it as we speak from PSN+. It was always one of those games I wanted to try out, but there were just so many other games on my plate. Looking forward to giving it a go.
Krimmson  +   325d ago
How can Shenmue not be in this list?
Menashe  +   325d ago
Pretty much the entire Dreamcast library can make a list just by itself. Heck, the Dreamcast console hardware deserved more sales!
310dodo  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2 was fun for a couple hours til you really noticed how empty and lifeless that huge world was.
Lord_Sloth  +   325d ago
Your list does not have Folklore. It should.
Snookies12  +   325d ago
Folklore was great, but I felt it was missing... Something... I'm not sure what it was exactly, though I never did actually beat the last boss. That was a really hard fight, and the fact it'd send you back to the beginning if you died sucked. :\
RockmanII7  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2 was an amazing game, it and Mass Effect 2 are still neck and neck for my favorite 2010 single player game. Oh yea, a list like this is also begging to have Enslaved: OttW on it surprised it didn't.

After this Wolverine game I hoped that Marvel will make their games gritty as this one was. "Hulk ripping everyone up" Marvel X Mortal Kombat / Killer Instinct.
Tonester925  +   325d ago
Def Jam Fight for New York should be on there as well! One of the best fighters I've ever played so far. Endless fun, 50+ characters (No DLC), create-a-character, great story and characters, memorable stages, weapons, Blazin' Moves.

I still remember most of the story line and fights you had to complete.

Def Jam Icon was terrible. Someone should make a new game like Def Jam FFNY
ninjagoat  +   325d ago
Held back and got Just Cause 2 on steam £3.75 75% off one of the best games for under a Fiver ive purchased ;). That was back in January though.
Clarence  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2 is one of the best games I've played this gen. I really hope Rockstar is taking notes form this game.
Raoh  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2 is one of my favorite games this gen.

First I rented it for PS3, was about to buy it but then I caught a steam sale for the pc version for $2.99.

But I play my ps3 more than my pc so, I bought it for ps3 during the digital psn sale that included the dlc.

Honestly folk, buy, rent or steal this game.

IMO best open world game this generation.
urwifeminder  +   325d ago
Battlestations pacific ,battlestations midway and shadowrun amazing games no other games have grabbed me like those in a while.
numonex360  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2 is a lame copy of GTA IV.
GTA IV is the best game of all time and any other non-GTA game is just a lame copy.
Menashe  +   325d ago
You know how many times GTA clones themselves? I think Rockstar still has a thing or two to learn about open-world games.
Oh_Yeah  +   325d ago
@numonex360

lmao, when your playing gta 4, do you not notice the crap cover system, annoying people calling you all the time, messed up camera rotation, blurry smudged graphics, uninteresting main character, lame fighting physics. im not saying its a bad game but the best open world? far from it. very overated yes.. red dead was beyond better, batman ac, skyrim, fallout, assassins creed, mafia 2, just cause 2 were all more polished, fun or interesting. i know its only my opinion but get out of here with that fanboyism

I agree with everything except the uninteresting character part.....I mean really? The only way someone could say that is if they havent beat the game or skipped all the story cutscenes. Niko is a really interesting character who has to make difficult decisions....if anything the characters of GTA all have amazing depth for a video game. No one could deny that GTA4 is one of the best open worlds....even if it is overrated. Notice how all the games you say were "better" came out after gta when gaming evolved since the beginning of this gen. Plus all those games had issues. Mafia 2 was practically an empty city some even said a "dollhouse" didnt even need an open world for that game. Red dead I believe was better only because it was newer and rockstar had time to evolve with the industry GTA 5 will remedy this. Batman, skyrim, fallout and AC are not even close to gta style games and Just Cause 2....I personally love so I cant really give a fair opinion against gta4. But I agree Just cause was amazingly fun vast open world beautiful graphics. I mean to pull something that good looking and that big with great frame rates and little pop-in this late in the generation is almost unspeakable....black magic even. but comparably just cause 2 was not polished in story at all. GTA 4 was good by the standards of the day. I remember all the issues you mentioned weren't even a problem then...I think we just all got spoiled so when we look back it is very clunky once I played uncharted I hated GTA4's camera. All the graphics early on were muddy for almost most games with some exceptions like uncharted etc. GTA 4's world had life to it and the physics although bad were good by the standards of the day when physics were not seen as often as they are now.

awsome comeback. Truth is, early on in this gen i didnt like or beat most games. The great games were VERY few and far between imo. I didnt consider gta 4 to be one of those that impressed me at the time. i was expecting more after playing mass effect 1 and rainbow 6 vegas. There were only about 2-3 titles a year since 2006 that i actually played all the way threw and liked until about late 2009 when i started seeing better quality...n started picking up more games. shit i played oblivion from release until about the time skyrim came out, i cant say that about most other prequels... as for nikos character...i dont even remember the story or challenges he faced, i just didnt like him. it wasnt entertaining enough. gameplay or story wise for me to keep going is all i know. i was bored. the gta liberty city stories are another thing though...i loved both of those characters because i could relate them to 2 people i know in my life.

Heavenly Sword should be on there.
cstyle  +   325d ago
I agree with that. HS was a great game and Ninja Theory is a awesome studio.

Just cause 3 will be a xbox 720 game too.

I loved Just Cause 2. After i beat it i stopped playing it. I need to just go around cities causing chaos and become a champ again!
numonex360  +   325d ago
GTA IV delivers and it still holds as one of the best games of this generation. Good story line, endless choices and possibilities, open world game, 2 episodes were added in 2009 by Rock Star to expand upon the GTA IV experience.

Just Cause 2 problem is that hardly anyone has heard about it nor played it. I admit I have never played JC2. When a game does not get the media attention it misses out on crucial sales. Sales determine a companies/products success. More sales = more profits.

I am so looking forward to Grand Theft Auto 5, my most anticipated future game bar none. What will Rockstar do next with the great GTA series?
Oh_Yeah  +   325d ago
sales dont mean the game is the best though, just means it has hype. who cares about sales or a big name? do yourself a favor and stop playing follow the leader...your limiting yourself as a gamer. actually apply that to everything...the music you listen to, the girls you go after, the fields you learn, food you eat, people you hang with etc. become versatile like a chameleon, having options and knowledge is key.

Amen Brother^ But I think he means if the games that aren't as known get the advertising of household names....it will become a household name. I mean look at Just Cause 2....It could have done even better for virtually no marketing campaign...it should be a household name as described by the author.
DasTier  +   325d ago
The problem with Just Cause 2 was that its best part was the explosions from flying airlines into skyscrapers, and that just felt kind of dirty.
sknygy  +   325d ago
Awkward. None of these games interested me except Ico, but I didn't enjoy it anyway.
This list should have included beyond good and evil as Majora's Mask (possibly even Skyward Sword?)
JellyJelly  +   325d ago
Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Getowned  +   325d ago
I've always wanted to try that wolverine game lol
Megaton  +   325d ago
Demos of that Wolverine game and Wet were alright. Just Cause 2 was very fun. Put around 60 hours into it on Steam.
Kidmyst  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2 is so much fun with the grappling hook. tethering enemies to gas tanks to launch them into the air, statue heads to helecopters, lots of stuff to just blow up. It does get repetitive but is a fun game to just go do whatever you want in from time to time. Completed it on 360 and got it free on PSN with Plus.
Hazmat13  +   325d ago
Just Cause 2: i was at a 76% i was going to every little village. until i do not know how this was possible, i got bored of it. but still a game worthy of time and gameplay and blowing shit up! lol
NastyLeftHook0  +   325d ago
heavenly swords, just cause 2 and dark sector.
iceman2929  +   325d ago
I just beat the main story for JC2 yesterday... only 25% completion hahahaha.
