I would imagine that these games would also be available for download at some point. Its a great list, and its great to see Resistance 1, Resistance 2 and Heavenly Sword on there.

I wish there was a Heavenly Sword sequel. It's such a good game.
-MD-  +   975d ago
I'd take a Heavenly Sword sequel over another God of War sequel.
TheFallenAngel  +   975d ago
@-MD-
Oh hell no! God of War is way better than Heavenly sword! The first heavenly sword was mediocre. No jump button really??? God of War is the best hack and slash game out there.

ALAH WAKBA sorry I just get excited

Sorry for what ?.. :)

@-MD-

Why choose when you ask for both? what about somethiing like this:

GOW: Home Console
HS: Portable

That would be Great!

It would of been better without the stupid SIX AXIS.
>.<
Edit:
I'd like to see a Heavenly Sword sequel.

i don't trust ninja theory anymore, everything they were involved in turned to shit
DanJenkoFMV  +   974d ago
I agree a lot of the games are really good, but it does look like they've chosen the ones that didn't sell well.
fermcr  +   974d ago
Don't worry. You buy them now.
Then you buy them again for the PS4.
Then you buy them again for the PSVita 2.
Then you buy them again for the PS5.
Then you buy them again for the PSVita 3.
Then you buy them again for the PS6...

and goes on ... and on ... and on ... and on ....

Whoever wrote the article sure played a different version of God of War 3 than I did. It's definitely not an "open-world action-adventure game."
DlocDaBudSmoka  +   975d ago
damn you beat me to it. i was going to say the exact same thing. kinda makes me wonder what an open world God of War would be like.
Veni Vidi Vici  +   974d ago
I hate open world. You waste so much time just running around looking for crap. Just get me to the next thing I have to do. I don't have enough time in the day as it is to be wasting it on running around and doing nothing.
egidem  +   975d ago
It's definitely not a corridor type of game, although it does heavily emphasize on story-telling as all the other God of War games have. It does however have a bit of freedom to roam around - such as when you're solving large puzzles that need you to collect something from one part of the level back to the other, etc.

But that's about it though.
T3MPL3TON  +   975d ago
That doesn't make it open world.

Every LINEAR game has environments you can 'explore' that doesn't mean it's an open game.
egidem  +   975d ago
@T3MPL3TON
That's why I said "But that's about it though." God of War 3 is far from a sandbox game due to its nature.

I was trying to contrast it with other games out there far more linear and restricting than God of War 3 (games which are on rails, for example or games which once you go forward, you can't go back, even in the same stage).

WHERE'S METAL GEAR SOLID 4?!

I was just about to say that.

Now I'm just guessing here, but I'm assuming that every one of these "essential games" will include trophies, therefore games that did not originally have them will not be re-released for that one reason, as its been said that MSG4 will never get trophies.

Could be wrong, but that's my theory.
Skate-AK  +   975d ago
Nope I will put money on it. They won't give Restance trophy support. When they re released Oblivion like a year ago, for an annversery, the box said trophies and it still didn't have any. I don't think old PS3 games will ever be patched to include trophies.
BlaqMagiq24  +   975d ago
Chances are probably not. When the reveal for the next Ratchet and Clank game was announced (Ratchet and Clank Full Frontal Assault) someone asked why Tools of Destruction never got trophies and the response Insomniac gave was the game was made before PlayStation Network came into fruition therefore the game wouldn't even recognize PSN therefore making trophies impossible for the game.
gaden_malak  +   975d ago
curtisd88 - that sucks but I guess it makes sense.
Elvis  +   975d ago
I DON'T KNOW!
ANIALATOR136  +   974d ago
I was gonna say that but thinking about it, people who are just jumping onto the playstation brand won't be able to just start playing 4 without playing the other 3 first
Straightupbeastly  +   975d ago
Looks like the essential batch of franchises that are soon no longer to exist..except gow
1nsomniac  +   975d ago
I would say 5 out of those 15 are essential. In fact some of them are just plain laughable as being marketed as essential!
IRetrouk  +   975d ago
So what's the difference between the platinum and essential range? Are they even cheaper or something?
FinaLXiii  +   975d ago
probably those will cost less 10$ than platinium titles for example:

- inFAMOUS essencials ver. costs 20€
- inFAMOUS 2 platinium cost 30€
jamesensor  +   974d ago
Those are ok prices for games, now that you threw some values here. That should attract newcomers and boost sales.

How the heck did Uncharted not make the PS3 Essentials first batch?
thatdudesfrys  +   975d ago
Where the heck is demon souls and dark souls?!
theDECAY  +   974d ago
At least Demon's Souls, for sure.
Gigawatt25  +   975d ago
Infamous? LMFAO! No, just no.
Electroshocked  +   974d ago
Are you kidding, or just trolling? InFAMOUS is one of the best super hero video games that's out there, along with it's sequel, InFAMOUS 2 and the Batman: Arkham series.
Raoh  +   975d ago
I don't consider heavenly sword or god of war to be better than each other, they have a lot in common and should be played equally. I really hope for an HS sequel, or prequel (if you played the game you can understand why)

It's like dante's inferno, it doesn't have to be better than god of war just has to be good. Which it is.
Baka-akaB  +   974d ago
I dont se how they can be equal in quality if they share so much but one got mediocre gameplay , input lag and inconsistant framerate (Heavenly sword) .

HS' saving grace was the neat design , the graphics and of course it's excellent plot and universe .

It was still a good game of course , and one NT could have improved upon easily , instead of redoing the same mess and worse with their newer titles

With Heavenly Sword on this list, maybe hunt towards Nariko in Playstation All Stars?
Breadcrab  +   975d ago
Apparently, Eyepet and Start The Party are essential gaming experiences that everyone on this planet should own.

No. Just no.
JAMurida  +   975d ago
Better put MAG on that list...

Even though the community on that game is dam near on life-support.
fOrlOnhOpe57  +   974d ago
Im still waiting on Sony to give Killzone (PS2) some HD remastering love. Imo, best Kz story yet.
rataranian  +   974d ago
All these games are like $20 now. How much cheaper do you need them to decide to buy?
Bobby Kotex  +   974d ago
What is this crap? Mag? Are they serious? But no, MGS4, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo or LBP. Those were just off the top of my head. Sounds like some made up crap to me.
