Marginal Gaming - Women Written Wrong

8bitfix writes: Lately, a lot of varied controversies have been springing up involving the portrayal of women in video games. In the span of only a couple of months the outcomes of incidents within gaming news have given us questions like, is gaming going overboard with kitsch representations of women in games?

The story is too old to be commented.

I see men "written wrong" every other day. Gears of War, Twilight, Remains of the Day.

No man bothers complaining about that. I wonder why.

Oh right. Because we know it doesn't matter.

There are tons of male characters in the gaming world, but few females and fewer female leads. No, it doesn't matter that sometimes the males leads were written badly because there's more to look at. It's harder to find another female lead.

Just think of the main group in Justice League. Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonderwoman, Hawk Girl, and Martin ManHunter. Don't like the Flash? There's Green Lantern. Don't like Superman? There's Batman. There's many characters you can root for.

Don't like Wonderwoman? There's Hawk Girl. Don't like Hawk Girl? There's Wonderman. It's one or the other. With less variety, it's important that the characters are done well. When there are more female characters, it won't matter so much when there are some written badly.

It always important for people to speak up about what type of storytelling they would like to see from any given media. We are the consumer and we would like to give our money to the company who can produce the things we would like to see.

Women can root for... Harley Quinn, I guess? Maybe?
