Nintendo Caters to Younger Generation

If it has not become readily apparent with the incredible success associated with recently released title’s such as Game Freak’s Pokemon Black and White 2, Nintendo doesn’t really care to cater an older generation. (3DS, Nintendo, Tech, Wii)

dedicatedtogamers  +   324d ago
They do, but they don't. The reason why they "cater" to a younger generation is because younger kids haven't seen Nintendo's content before. Me, I grew up with Nintendo, so when Nintendo comes out with a new game I think "Gee, Nintendo. Phoning it in a bit, aren't ya? Can't we spice things up?" But a little kid just goes "Mommmy! I want to ride karts with Mario on the Wii! BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT!" And then when that kid grows up and becomes our age, he will think "Gee, Nintendo. Phoning it in a bit, aren't we?"

Nintendo has the inability to cater to longtime fans. So they just discard you and look for a younger crowd.

You guys are idiots they always have been aimed towards making games for everyone they got their metroids, zeldas, marios etc their all for different age groups, hell the first nintendo console was called Famicom short for family computer, and lol @ the mario kart comment Mario Kart debuted on snes that comment is just retarded by saying inability to cater to longitme fans they've continued with the major Nintendo franchises for their old fans.

No need to call anyone names, its a valid point. Nintendo keeps using the same characters because there are always new kids coming up who aren't used to them. I still love me a good mario game, but I've had to play more playstation this gen. I've seen a lot of mario over the years, I do get rather tired of the same face.

Btw... Lol @ your comment about his comment about mario kart. His point is that they've been using the franchises for just so long, that those of us who have seen them for so long get tired of them, like I said.

Thanks for the Update , Captain Obvious
Nintendo has become the Peter Pan Fisher Price of gaming. But some ones gotta do it. If not Nintendo who? Sony? No way Sony is stooping down that level they pride them selves of " wanna be 19" games. Although I hate this of Sony but its their Japanese integrity & honor thing. They would rather go bankrupt than go down Nintendo's level. And I am cool with that.

Fisher Price of gaming http://www.hotcouponworld.c... lol :P nice description and I find it spot on most games on Wii target ages between 6 & 12 years old, that means elementary school kids, kids above that age prefer more mature games it was the same for me once upon a time I was playing games like Mario, Donkey Kong & Crash Bandicoot before I knew it I was past platforms and into more mature games 1st party titles of Nintendo all have an expiration day that's how I see it.

And how would you know that? Sony only has "pride and integrity" now because they lost the casual market and they're left to contend with Microsoft for whatever remains of the hardcore market. It's very easy for anyone to talk about integrity and pride when they're not winning. And even more easier when their attempts to cater to the lowest common denominator all but completely fails.

Nintendo has always more or less been about the wider audience since day one.

LOL. That why sony copies everything N does? Ps all stars, lbp, lbp kart, ps move, psp, avatars (miis), ps move all stars, near (streetpass/spotpass)? Sony tried to be nintendo, they failed. Now theyre trying to be MS with western games and online. I love all 3 companies for different reasons (and different games) but your honor and integrity line is the biggest pile of horse shit ive heard on here. None of them are honorable, they all want our money and will push it as far as possible (599 dollars, rrod, 3ds price drop, the ps2 hardware problems) before they apologise or offer something to rectify a problem (3 yr warranty, ambassador games, psn outage games).

Pretty nice stealth troll with the "i hate this about them" but you contradicted it with the "im cool with that". So which is it?

Prob havent even played any Nin game except mario 10 years ago. Go play Kid Icarus and tell me thats for kids. Play Fire Emblem, Fatal Frame reamke, Xenoblade, Last Story. Resident Evil Revelations?

Anything?.....

Didnt think so.

Wii U Mad? Peter Pan syndrome much?
Do you even try to understand before being understood?

Nintendo games appeal to kids and to OLD ADULTS like many of you guys here who refuses to grow up. Nine year old kiddie gamers who are trapped in a man's body by their biased Nintendo fanboyism.

History 101. Whether you like it or not the PlayStation gaming system is conceived & commissioned by Nintendo, for Nintendo, inside Nintendo to play Nintendo games. And you say its Sony's fault.

Nintendo games appeal to kids and to OLD ADULTS who refuses to grow up. Nine year old kiddie gamers who are trapped in a man's body by their biased Nintendo fanboyism.

When will you grow up?

Unlike you Nintendo only fanatics, we play games on any gaming machine possible whether its fun or aggravating.

We enjoy Nintendo games even more than you do because we play them in context of the bigger gaming universe.

We can play in Kiddie Mode with our DS/PSP and or Adult Man Mode with PS3/PC anytime we want.

We play in a bigger ocean of gaming unlike you fanatics who limit yourselves in your Nintendo fish tank.

Sony tried to move on and differentiate it self from Nintendo by making games for the adult gamers. Its was the "Wanna BE Ninteen" gamers back then & now they are still keeping up 17 years later with The Last of Us while Nintendo is stuck with the same old Mario, Pokemon and Link.

Sony is not a kids toy company like Nintendo and tried its best (with Sega) to relieve video games of the perception that "video games are for young kids" and I am glad they succeeded or else we will all be stuck with the stuff Nintendo makes for the next wave of toddlers.

" Go play Kid Icarus and tell me thats for kids. Play Fire Emblem, Fatal Frame reamke, Xenoblade, Last Story. Resident Evil Revelations?"

But.... you call these Man's Games?

How could these games stack up with Uncharted, Heavy Rain, God of War, Beyond or The Last of Us in terms of maturity?

Are your kind the reason why 3rd party attempts for mature games on the Wii failed?

Iwata said they they want to catch up on "hardcore" gaming on the 3DS and Wii U with Nintendo's brand image and fanatics I don't see it catching up soon.

Nintendo is better of doing games for the young kids because that is their role and job.

Funny I'm 22 and I love Nintendo's games. We can all make stereotype demographics but Mario has a universal appeal and doesn't solely cater to younger audiences.

What about the bronies that watch my little pony? That show is aimed at young girls and yet adult males can enjoy it. Not everyone plays mature games. I play my fair share of GTA and Ninja Gaiden but I still love Nintendo's games. At least it gives me a change.

That image of Reggie they use for this article on n4g is nightmare inducing...
shackdaddy  +   324d ago
Really? Because me and all my friends prefer to play Mario kart, SSB, and NSMB over any other game...

Maybe if you're one of those "super hardcore omega mature gamers" who seem to prefer to blog about games rather than play them.

LOL @ this article. I'm 32 and Nintendo is the #1 reason why I even give a flying **** about video games this generation.
TBM  +   324d ago
i'm 38 and they havent giving me a reason so far to look forward to the wii u, and the other two companies have had more than enough games for me to give a **** about this generation.
SKUD  +   324d ago
Still no regrets skipping on nintendo this gen. Not gonna hold my breath to see if the wii-u has anything that will interest me. Very low expectations.
mike1up  +   324d ago
Lmao.

Oh dear, this is such a problem. Perhaps we should start asking these kids for photo ID before we let them purchase a non Nintendo product.

Is there any point to articles like these, besides being divisive?
Hicken  +   324d ago
Well, it's not like they ONLY cater to kids. But it's also pretty safe to say their primary target audience is pretty young.

A lot of the people above- and others will follow suit, presumably- mention Mario, Zelda and others as games they love, but that's not exactly the same. For the most part, older gamers play those because they grew up with them; they played Metroid as a kid, and still love the franchise. Enjoying Mario as an adult doesn't mean it's not aimed at kids; I'm 27, and I enjoy shows like Fairly Odd Parents, even though it's targeted for my nephews.

I think, instead of saying they cater to the young, it's more accurate to say they cater primarily to the young at heart. I like my blood and gore, but I like my thoughtful titles, too. And I also like my pure fun games, like what Nintendo delivers.

Nothing wrong with any of it.
hotrider12  +   324d ago
im 54 still love and play nintendo games kid at heart yes
nothing wrong playing Mario,Zelda, Donky Kong,Metroid,Contra or watching SPONGBOB, FAIRLY ODD PARENTS to each there own.
AWBrawler  +   324d ago
wow are you really 54? Ossan?

But I agree Nintendo is for the young at heart who can enjoy Disney channel or cartoon network, and not feel like its a threat to their maturity
