Mass Effect 3: 5 Reasons Extended Cut DLC Won’t Make A Difference

WC writes: While the world goes mad for BioWare’s “fixed” ending, we’re not so sure it’ll make even the slightest difference. (Mass Effect 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

I'll agree that Javik was way too important to be DLC. His character was one of the strongest in the game in both his story and the interactions you had with him. I was always excited to check on him after every mission, compared to Ashley who was a complete and utter disappointment as a character only capable of one liners and one memorable dialogue scene(when she was drunk). Zaeed has always been non existent to me, and while Kasumi a very fun interesting character, they always felt like DLC and barely had any relevance. Javik definitely belonged there. Would the loss of Liara's home world be as impacting as it was without the confrontation that she had with Javik? I really can't imagine so. That scene alone was the reason why I had so much sympathy in my heart for her as the player.

I think the new endings did well in clearing up everything about the god-child....turns out he isn't as godlike as we thought. With the original endings, he was a big WTF placed there to confuse us all. In the new endings, I think Bioware really did their best (almost) of making sense out of him. I like the idea of a higher power placing him there with the responsibility of creating a solution to the inevitable rise of the synthetics....even though I think the whole Reaper solution is way too extreme. But hey, I loved them as enemies so it's cool.

"Don’t get me wrong, the ending of ME3 is one of the worst I’ve been through in regards to execution, but not storytelling"

^Fully agreed

"Protagonists have died a million times in a bazillion games, even Shepard can die up to a total of three times throughout the trilogy! why make a fuss over this now and expect the DLC to answer to that?"

You said it yourself Mr. Author. The original endings were executed in the worst way possible. Bioware agrees with you. That's why they had no choice but to fix it with the DLC. We hate to see our heroes go, especially in a way that makes little to no sense. Definitely something to fuss about.

I'm thankful for the new endings. They gave me the closure that I needed to move on.

Sure. The damage has been done. But it put me at ease to point I can play Mass Effect again.
