A quick note to let you all know that a new demo has hit the marketplace and its for the spine-chillingly scary title F.E.A.R.
DAMN that's great! Gonna check it out right after my office closes X06 has started and look what we got as a present :)
When I played this like 2 months ago it was aweosme and it just looks even better. Who would've thought an old feature like bullet time could be used so perfectly in F.E.A.R, defo. gona be buying this one.
Never played this on the pc....looking forward to downloading it!
This and Halflife 2 are probably the best FPS games i've played. With fear getting a slight edge in graphics and enemy AI and physics.
Hope the demo is good, ill check it out later. i want to see forza 2 in action. IM OUT.
the demo's really impressive!!! for a quite old pc game, this still holds up right with the BEST of fps's. and bullet time with the particle gun makes for some spectacular effects!!!! highly recommended
And the previews said it's redone and better looking on 360 then on any high end PC so this is a must have for ppl that like the genre! Kick ars tonight in the demo. Anyone downloaded it yet? Any sign of MP included?
It's not! (better looking than the PC one), at best it looks equal to, if not inferior to the PC version. The PC version has slighty higher res textures, and a higher particle count. However it (the 360) does have HDR.
that is wierd seeing how the developers themselves said it is an up grade over the pc version. and review sites have echoed the same thing. are you playing on a HD-TV?
Sadly this is not anywhere near a high end pc version! quit the nonsense Mart! Having dloaded the demo....my 1900xtx romps home, the 360 has low to med texture rez, and has a framerate of max 30fps, dipping below now and again. Anyone with a "high end" setup can see during the opening scene in the car. on a high end sys the textures are increadibly sharp, and the frame rate is alot higher than the 360. No multiplayer portion in the demo also.
What size tv are you playing that game on and what resolution is it. If anything at 1080i the game looks identical to the pc version. Considering I am comparing 1280x1024 on the 19" monitor to 1900x1080 of my 51" tv. Which is whythe textues will probably look more sharp due to the resolution not because of the graphical quality of the game.
Its a lack of programming effort. The graphics processor in the 360 is supposed to surpass what they have for he pc for at least another year or so. I dont see any reason for these games not to be able to look better and run faster. Also Fear is definatly not the best looking game on the 360. i think we will see some of the real graphical power of the 360 when we get the exclkusive games made on the system ratheran ports. Mass Effect, GOW,Halo 3 etc.
Well Antan, maybe your TV is not proper. I am reading the main previews on the game from several game magazines that are more trusted then you and they all said it looks equal and on different parts above the PC version on highest settings. Period So you could try to tell all you want, could be a PS3 fan in disguise or just have a sh!tty setup, don't know. But what could you bring in more then the offical mag's say?
LOL !! Fantastic !!! and you bought the magazine(s) did you? in that case well done !! the magazines have done their job !! Tell me again why people buy newspapers/magazines, because everything they publish is the truth ? thought not. The problem here is all you do is read things and proclaim them to be the ultimate in truth, correct? were they 360 magazines out of interest? I would hardly call a top of the range pc or a 360 hooked up to a sammy HD tv, Tannoy surround speakers, Yamaha 7.1 av reciever a shi!!y set-up ....would you? No fanboy comments from me im afraid, though quite clearly you seem to thrive on the subject! Accept the fact that the high end pc is considerably better than the 360 version. its amazing what truth can be told once both versions have been seen 1st hand! Oh and ......16x Anisotropic Filtering!!. On a final note, move on Mart, nothing more to see here.
Damn! TheMart, you are to blinded by your fanboyism to see the truth. He is absolutely right. The 360 version is capped at 30fps whereas the PC version can go much higher than that. Also the texture quality IS lower on the 360 than on the PC and that is a fact! I do not care what some magazine tells me, I can see for myself with my own eyes. Mind you I can turn on anisotropic filtering on my PC and further sharpern up the textures on the floor and walls on the PC version and still be running at a higher framerate than on the 360 version. Developers have reasons to say that it looks better, they are trying to sell you it. They've been making statements like that since the days of Genesis. And the same for magazines, when they like a game they will claim that it doesnt slowdown or flicker of roughen up when it does. And as for the guy that said that the 360 processors is supposed to be more powerful than a PC processor, that is only partially true. Did you know that 360 Xenon processor is a "in-order" execution processor and not a more modernized OoOE (out-of-order execution) processor? that means that its not nearly as efficient as a OoOE proc, which is what every modern day proc is. We left in-order procs since the Pentium 2 Pro. And also the 360 processor has one 1 MB of L2 cache shared by all 3 procs. this is also inferior architecture. Its fine as long as one one core and maybe two threads are executed. But once they start using all 3 cores with all 6 threads running parallel, then this 1 meg cache will become extremely small, split up amongst all 3 cores. Unless they have some sort of advanced cache architecture implemented (but i doub it, as I have not heard anything about it)
Guys calm down, the mag's were online, nothing bought, just read what was available through this site. And you may tell me one thing: who is able to see if something runs on 30 fps or 60 fps when the human eye only sees 24 fps and down to slow down and up is the same for the human eye? So talking 30 fps as 'not much' is kind of stupid. Texture quality: could be an early build. The previews that came by here spoke of better texture quality and indeed HDR. Maybe they saw a later product, I have no idea. We'll see when it launches then compared to this demo
Actually you can tell a big deifference between 30fps and 60 fps, 60 fps looks alot smoother, now if you can get 30fps to be constant, that would be acceptable (especially to most people) but not better than 60fps. And true the human eye cant count pass 24fps but it can certainly see a difference in the smoothness in motion.
I can have my 360 hooked up to both a Samsung 19" Syncmaster on my pc and a 26" Samsung HD lcd. With both pc and 360 versions running off the Sammy monitor its very easy and clear to see the the gulf in graphical differences. And the frame rate is considerably better Bear in mind this is on a 1900xtx on pretty much max settings (of which there are lots), with a high end duel core processor, so could argue on a price / perfomance basis, the 360 would be better "value". Only one clear winner in the visual performance category however. A decent effort by the developers but i think we could of expected a bit more from the 360 version. But if you have not seen the or played the Pc version, regardless of the visuals, it is indeed one of the best fps games in quite some time!
Looks like crap compared to the PC version running with every thing turned on.
Thats because theres poo all over your screen
First off, the is a demo and not the finished version. However, I've played the PC version and the PC version on a high end PC does look better than the 360 demo. Maybe they'll juice it up more for the 360 retail version, but at this point, the high end PC version looks better. I do use an HDTV for my 360. However, like Antan said, the 360 is about 1/5 the price of my PC so it's a better value. People shouldn't try to compare consoles like the PS3/360 to PCs since consoles are closed systems while PCs are not. PCs will quickly surpass consoles with updated hardware. PCs, however, are WAY more expensive. It's comparing apples to oranges.
Yep, though sadly im one of the suckers who partakes in the 6th month cycle that is.........pc ugrading !!!!!!!!!
Its about time for me to upgrade. Its gonna cost alot of money for what I want to do. I am really looking forward to running flight simulator x with alot of detail. Thats gonna take some power.
Anyone know if the demo is the same one they had in last month's OXM?
Im going to download it anyway, just so I dont have to put in my disc everytime, I would rather play it off the hard drive anyways.
Fear on the 360 looks much better than the version on High end computers. Its all in the TV you are using folks. It looks fantastic...the HDR lighting makes a huge difference and the effects are incredible in FULL HD. WOW. Anyone who tells you otherwise....its more than likely A. they haven't played it or B. its there TV. Computer displays by nature are better than TV's. If you plug your high end computer into a regular tv or a bad hd tv...it will not look no where near as good as on your Computer monitor. But if you play the game on 1080i and have a good HD tv. WOW. Its really notibly better than the high end version for the pC. The developers were exactly right. But for those who don't believe. Buy the vga cord for the 360 and buy the dvi adapter and plug it up to your computer monitor....Make sure your computer monitor can do 1080p resolution....Mine does. And you will "clearly see" it looks much better on the 360. But that goes for many games on the 360. Its all in the display to get the most out of your system.
I thought the demo kinda sucked. I'm sick of all these goddamned ports. Xbox 1 ports. Year-old PC ports. Even PS2 ports for god's sake. There are still very few REAL Xbox360 games. The hardware just isn't being taken advantage of. X06 better be a blowout for killer 1st party games. MS needs to stop relying on 3rd party support to carry the console. They're just not getting the job done, IMO.
The graphics suck. You could of told me this was PS2 and I wouldnt have been surprised. Compared to Lost planet this looks like old recycled crap. If your gonna make an FPS it has to be earth shattering or I will buy a lapdance and a round of shooters instead. Bring on the real 360 games.
As long as the PC ports sell better on the consoles than the intended PC's...they will keep coming. Obviously Most people want the port...thus the higher sales....But I do see what you are saying. I have a PC...so personally I would prefer exclusive custom made games for the 360. But in the case of Fear...with the right display it out does the PC counterpart...and unlike me...many gamers have yet to experience Fear....But just like the devs said...the 360 version is the better version of the game. I recommend people who really care about graphics and want the best to invest in a 1080p computer monitor and buy the vga cord for the 360 and then buy the vga to dvi adapter...then you will see what the devs are talking....And me for that matter...
I thought the graphics were good, the fps was good, bullet time seems interesting...and this demo gave me the heebie-jeebies. Personally I don't like the heebie-jeebies, but I know others do. I'll be leaving this on the shelf so I can sleep at night.
All the developers have said that the 360 version is the equivelant to a PC with all the settings maxed, plus the HDR lighting. Obviously if you've played the game on PC (I never did cause I can't afford to upgrade my computer and get a console, hence the 360) then you get better texture resolutions since PC monitors have always been better than standard TV's. If you're playing on a good HDTV then you should get the same PC experience, I played it on my standard set and it looked pretty bland, then saw it running at 720p and it looked a lot sharper. As for the HDR lighting, isn't that High Dynamic Range lighting, which as I understand is used to get the effect of switching views from a dark area to bright daylight like in GRAW. I didn't notice the lighting in this demo, maybe there just wasn't an area that really showcases it yet until later in the game, but with a game that takes place at night I don't really see how HDR lighting can have any real impact.
is this the same demo that came with the last OXM magazine bout a month ago? I dont wanna w8 a half hour to find out.
F.E.A.R for the 360 and for the PC as well so how the (Hell!) would you guy's know telling from PC graphics from 360 graphics you bunch of "Twits!" they both look the same maybe like the 360 version is much shinier and cleaner while the PC version is more PC'ISH.
