Nintendo: Wii U Online Services will be FREE, no subscription based model

Nintendo head Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the online services of their upcoming console Wii U will be FREE of cost i.e gamers won't have to pay any sorts of subscription fee for it.

Will this improve hardware and software sales of Wii U in the long RUN? (Miiverse, Nintendo, Wii U)

The way it should be, I would be happy with a PS+ type service which you could choose to pay for but making a P2P model mandatory to access features that should be free is just wrong in my opinion.

Nicely done Nintendo, you're on the right track :D

The Wii U left me confused and wanting more knowledge after E3, but as more and more information leaks out I'm starting to get a clearer image of the Wii U, and better opinion on it.

All I really want to know are the specs., what the OS and preinstalled software is, what games are coming out at launch, and how much the console will cost.

The specs., cost, and games go hand to hand, because if it's not worth the asking price technology-wise and the games aren't there yet, then I might as well wait another 5 years like I did with the Wii (bought it at launch sold it, just now bought another one).

Did anyone ever think there was going to be one? I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to make you have to pay to play online, I mean who would ever pay for that anyways when your already paying for it from your internet provider.

The million dollar question is your service something worth in value that will make people want to pay for it? It would say no one in there right mind would pay for psn or a start up wi u service. When you can offer gamers everthing at there fingertips in a fast and efficient manner then gamers will pay for it. I will happily pay the price of one game a year to have access to a great online network that offers something for everyone.

Still gotta buy USB Lan Adaptor for wired support though. Not a bad price for a 5-7 year online service.

**Listen** You should be able to play your games online on any system for free. Period.

So you think that Xbox Live is unhackable because you pay for it? Newsflash, everything is hackable , the only reason XBL wasn't hacked is because it wasn't a target, not because it has any kind of amazing security
WetN00dle69  +   1245d ago
Yeah but id much rather pay for a STABLE NON-MAINTENECE experience. FREE always comes with a price.

When companies does it like this, Gamers win!
tigertron  +   1245d ago
Well it would be retarded if they made you pay for a service with friend codes...
DaThreats  +   1245d ago
Take that M$
Hopefully people be smart, stop paying for a scam that should be free with XBL, people be on PSN and WiiU online more, so M$ will stop charging for live

How it should be.
PygmelionHunter  +   1245d ago

Alright! And of course it will improve hardware and software sales, I never bought a 360 for its paid network.
Blastoise  +   1245d ago

no FCs in Wii U from what i heard
mamotte  +   1245d ago

"...Speaking in a recent investor Q&A, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata commented that “we’re not completely getting rid of Friend Codes.” According to Iwata, Wii U’s Miiverse will instead “simplify the process of making friends with another user in the platform by eliminating the need to input Friend Codes.”

And hopefully that FREE is not = BAD, because that would be a serious problem.
neutralgamer19  +   1245d ago
Ok this is what im talking about. At least imo this is the first real substantial good news Ive heard about the Wii u from the Nintendo camp. Im happy to see online will be free and of course i do not expect it to be as good as Sony or Micro online structure, but if it plays games online good im sold.

I dont care about party chat, video calls, etc.... and never have. Of course that is my stance on it and others might use party chat and video calls and all that stuff extensively.

Now let me hear some more concrete good news and positives of the Wii u and ill buy one.
Tonester925  +   1245d ago
Now I just hope that Friend Codes is just their fancy word for custom PSN ID and Gamertag
