Nintendo will reveal the final launch date and price for Wii U, as well as new games for 2013, at a September press conference, according to a tweet from a reliable investor.
(Nintendo, Wii U)
I am much more excited for the new games as well. They said they will announce all the games (for 2012 and some games for 2013). Let's see what they have. No more secrets, Nintendo!
Also, price for the WiiU should be 300,00~350,00 (US dolars), if it's more than 350,00 than Nintendo will have problems.
@Hisiru I can see a $300-$350 price tag happening. It goes well with Nintendo's statements that it will be their most expensive console, but also that we will be pleasantly surprised.
Show me something awesome to expect the first year and I'd have no problems paying 350 for it.
+1. We already know ballpark price(probably 300-350) and we already know it's coming out sometime between now and holidays(probably right before Black Friday), so I'd much more prefer info about new games that we have no knowledge on...
From the looks of the console this is at least 5 to 6 yr old tech so pricing this machine over 300 is mass suicide. If it was not for the controller its not worth anymore then 200. So I add 100 for the controller tops and I feel I am bein generous as they really have a small window that they can get away pricing it above a 360 or ps3 as the novelty of the controller will fade fast if it does not add much to the games.
I am thinking its the big third party list, $400 price, Nintendo Network in full and Possible spec details. That is just my hopes though.
I know many claim $400 as bad idea, but PS2, Xbox both sold at $400 bucks and PS2 outnumbers all other consoles to date as well as the active PC community. That is individually. So $400 bucks isn't bad price point. Just save some doe. I know it isn't hard getting paid scraps, but its possible if I can do it. You can too.
Problem with a $400 price tag, ms and sony will be releasing their next consoles in a yr or 2. Nintendo will sell to the mario, metriod and zelda crowds no doubt, but nintendo always likes to make a profit day one.
And nintendo's true competition with the wii u for the non nintendo crowd, isn't the ps3 or 360 although sony and ms will try to use their cheaper consoles and very large software library to it's full advantage.
It is a next gen system supposedly, it will be going against the next xbox and playstation.
My thing is wii u games should be compared to pc games not to ps3/360 games, since it isn't using 7-8 yr old hardware.
But nintendo still refuses to announce it's specs, and even didn't show off some of it's content at e3 "for fear of being copied".
Sorry but all signs so far point to a wii 2 to me, which is fine for most nintendo fans, just don't expect many ps3 or 360 gamers to camping out at best buy on launch night to buy one.
" So $400 bucks isn't bad price point. Just save some doe. I know it isn't hard getting paid scraps, but its possible if I can do it. You can too." Your assuming others consider the wii u worth the $400, not everyone does.
Well even with Sony and Microsoft releasing in 2013 or so. Nintendo could give a price cut at their launch to inspire more sales. If they did aim for $400 bucks. Which is still cheap price for HD graphics.
Value comes from the specs. If the hardware is there it will have a cost. Although the hardware they are rumored to use is based on AMD 4000 series graphics cards. It is dirt cheap to produce these days. There is certainly enough power in the 4000 series GPUs for some considerable graphics to be present on the WiiU. One thing noone considers is that Nintendo could have a powerful 4000 series GPU in the WiiU like say something based off the 4870 or an x2 based 4000 series GPU? Nintendo is enjoying their game with us either way.
I personally believe they decided to throw in more RAM to the system before its to launch.
I'm surprised it took this long in the comments for someone to say this. Nintendo is known for playing their cards close to their chest, damn near under their shirt, but this is cutting it kinda close. I would like to think people would need or would like to know these things well in advance, or at least much earlier than a month or so before release. It makes me wonder if they're still retooling the unit, making them unsure themselves. I hope not though, because a delay at this point with tech this old would not be a good thing. Then again, Nintendo has a fanbase similar to Apple's. Its everyone not a part of that fraternity I'm concerned about.
While I have never understood the allure of Nintendo consoles, it certainly does not make it just for kids. I give Nintendo its proper respect for helping make video games more popular; however, most Nintendo games have always left me disinterested and unmotivated to play, or own, a Nintendo console. I wish the WiiU great success, and hope it does what Nintendo seems to do best, which is create gamers for life.
Price will definitely be the deciding factor for me whether or not I get it when it comes out even if they have some games I'm interested in (PIKMIN 3!!!!!). If it's beyond what I'm willing to afford ($350), I'm just going to put that money into games from other systems that I want.
Not to be a buzz kill but can actually see a $400 price tag. It would be expensive but, reasonable for a console on launch and I would actually still buy it.
Their target audience is children and casuals. Casuals won't pay $400-500. It would get a price cut a few months later after sluggish sales just like the 3DS.
Enjoy your new casual fan base Nintendo. Good luck. LOL.
Release date - November 2012 Price - $300 New game announcements - Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Retro's new project which was supposedly pulled out of Nintendo's E3 at the last minute
Is it just me or do other people think Nintendo is handling this wrong, the price and release date should be the first things they inform potential customers about.
It's silly that they're completely avoiding the price question.
build hype, show us the games... then we MUST have it. show us the price... to late we still MUST have it lol... Warn us that the price will be a little due to inflation... DON'T CARE MUST HAVE IT.... Legion of zombies now roam the street and MUST HAVE IT!!!
Early HD Nintendo might be priceless with 3rd party support, get'em while their hot!
349.99$ ( HD Console, HDMI cables, 1 control, 1 game, power AC adapter)
By all means if you're a hater and can only afford one system, wait for the other 2 to announce theirs and make your choice or get a job and get them all. If you can't find one then go rob a store ( jeez do I have to give you all the ideas lol)
I want to see a new DKC as well as a brand new HD Super Metroid in its 2D glory....and a brand new Duck Hunt. I think Duck Hunt would work nicely with the WiiPad.
I just hope the other two don't wait until a couple of months before launch to announce a price. I rather know something at E3 so I have time to absorb the news and even know how much to save exactly. Oh well, we'll see. You better believe it's gonna be a warzone on here once the price is dropped....GET READY TO RUMMMBLE!!!!!
I have Wii Fit, And I can assure you that doesn't take away from my skills in Halo, 007, Gears, Tekken, DOA, Soul Calibur, Smash Bros, or Monster Hunter.
This is the first time I've seen the Wii U console.... All I've seen before was just the pad and I thought that was the system. Either I'm not following Wii U close enough or their marketing is lackluster. Can't wait for the next SSB and Zelda though.

What makes it 6 year old tech?

Just announce a new metroid, zelda, or fire emblem for the wii u, and I'm in.

you don't play the launch game and let the system collect dust. you're part of the core base the industry depends on.
