It's not about expectations, Reggie, it's about emotions

Gamasutra- One of the great benefits of being Nintendo is the passion of its fan base -- the emotional attachment they have with the brand. Even after all these years, even after Nintendo's slavish affair with the mainstream casual gamer during the Wii years, Nintendo's loyal diehards remain a force to be reckoned with.

And so it's curious to hear Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime expressing frustration at the very people who hang on just about every word he says. (Nintendo, Reggie Fils-Aime, Wii U)

The problem isn't that gamers are insatiable, but that Nintendo is irritated that what they insist their focus be isn't enough for avid console gamers. Gamers aren't going to conform, they'll just move on if their needs aren't met. We all have different levels of patience, but everyone has their breaking point. Hard to believe Nintendo doesn't realize this. I think that maybe they just don't care. Mario every year. Zelda and Smash Bros twice per decade. That's the problem in a nutshell.

Nintendo is in a tough position every1 want Nintendo to make a very powerful console but then yet every1 is hoping it doesn't cost no more than $300 the truth is nintendo can't please every1 I'm okay with the Wii u being behind in the graphics dept when it comes to next gen consoles I owned a xbox 360 and a Wii and I feel like I get the best of both worlds and I plan to do same with the Wii u & the next Xbox

I wouldn't mind a $400 console at all, but it had better be powerful and worth it. People are hoping it doesn't cost more than $300 because we can all see that it isn't much of a jump at all as far as specs go, meaning that even though the Wii U may be more powerful than current gen consoles, we can get the same games with a similar look on a $199, and $250 console.

If MS can afford to charge less than $200 for a 360, then Nintendo really can't justify something more than $300 for their console with similar capability, and a 'different' type of controller. At $400, the Wii U will be another 3DS, and Iwata and maybe even Reggie will have to resign this time unfortunately. The economy is too bad for people to spend that kind of money on tech that isn't more impressive and capable.
