Final Fantasy XIII-2 Fails To Cross 500k In North America
Over four months after its release in North America Square Enix’s sequel to Final Fantasy XIII still struggles to surpass its predecessor.
(Final Fantasy XIII-2, PS3, Xbox 360)
No one wanted this game, final fantasy fans never asked for it. The effort they put into making it should have gone on versus xiii and kingdom hearts 3
THE GAMERS HAVE SPOKEN AGAIN! Too bad SE don't like to listen to them. Hopefully, after this mess, they'll learn a lesson or two and dedicated their efforts to make FF13 vs.
Ranma, speak for yourself. Loved FF12. One of the best in fact. Many people loved FF11 as well, it remains the most profitable FF to this day, justifying a new expansion coming soon
I'll give you a big 'touche' for that one. Seriously, the game might be an improvement over 13, but no one asked for a sequel to a game that's not even well-received by the majority of the FF fan base.
Edit: And now there are rumors that FFXIII-3, or FFXIII-2-2 as a poster here jokingly posted, are looming in the gaming horizon. Ehh...
There is going to be a 13-3. If they just never gave the people who played both games an ending they would piss everyone off. But if they make FF 13-3 the only people who are pissed off are the ones who have been pissed for years.
How is it pointless when I enjoyed it ? Again you don't speak for everyone. You could'v said the majority, however YOU don't represent nor speak for the FF community lmao.
Game is still profitable because the budget was lower. Same game engine, same assets. They literally only had to work on a new storyline and the occasional new graphical asset. This game turned a profit a long time ago
The first one did sell pretty well. It got good reviews too. The problem is people didn't like the linearity in the first 20 or 30 hours so they never finished it. Those same people bashed how bad the story was when it was actually pretty good. I didn't like the linearity or the story at first either. But on my second playthrough I really enjoyed the story and all the side missions.
I still don't get what people were expecting. Most of the things they complained about XIII NOT being were never advertised to be there in the first place.
Personally, I loved XIII. I was rather disappointed in XIII-2, though; it was okay, but didn't live up to the original, in terms of character or story. Because of the hatred that XIII got, I never expected XIII-2 to see good sales.
It was more the childish moronic characters that killed the game for me. That and the fact that there was zero exploration in FFXIII. Also they changed my favourite summon into a motorbike >_> It was all just a bit...lame. Oh and Leona Lewis...
My biggest complaint was the battle and character creation systems. Even with the Crystarium, all characters had certain moulds that you HAD to make them fit in if you wanted to get the best out of them. Limitations like certain characters not being able to learn certain spells at all is just ridiculous. They took almost all possible control from our hands and it made the game extremely boring IMO.
I think the story was pretty good too, not my favourite of FF stories, but it wasn't bad either.
Not sure why you got disagrees, it's actually true that they had to cut from the game so they could do the Xbox version as well. I know Tetsuya Nomura said he didn't want to do a multi-platform game again after that fiasco.
XIII-2 is definitely better, but definitely doesn't live up to the Final Fantasy name. No game has since FFX came out. That was the LAST true Final Fantasy in my eyes. Only thing that really gives me hope is Versus, but who knows when that's coming...
Why would you expect it to see much more than the 'original'? If you weren't interested in XIII your probably not going to be interested in XIII-2. Logically, they're likely to do similar numbers.
If they continue to make FFXIII-3 despite this data, it will boil a lot of people's blood. If XIII-2 managed to sell less than XIII, then XIII-3 is practically guaranteed to sell even less than that. All it would demonstrate to fans is the all-consuming pride of Toriyama and Wada, who simply cannot admit that XIII/Fabula Nova Crystalis is a failure to the critics and fans alike. Let it go, guys, give Nomura a chance to shine. I'm not his biggest fan, but he clearly knows what he's doing more than Toriyama does.
It's the first Final Fantasy title, ever, that I have not purchased the day it hit shelves. I don't think I will ever get it. The sound track is inexcusable.
It was a good game but if you don't want a sequel you aren't going to buy it.
Square Listened to fan feedback on what was wrong on the game but it didn't mean people wanted a sequel it just meant don't make your next game like this.
For god sake Tetsuya give me versus cause am bored of the other fantasies this generation. TheatreRhythm should keep me going.
Even though we are not in the 90's anymore, but if Square made JRPG's with the same caliber as in the 90's things would be so different today. They have screwed up their games, I was one of their biggest fans, but not anymore. I still prefer JRPG's over any other RPG's, but won't limit myself to them.
Even though the FFXIII-2 took care of almost all the complaints, the real reason why people still hated it was because of its predecessor, not actually the game itself.
It is a very big improvement from FF13, but the thing I disliked the most has it's roots in the foundations of the battle system and Crystarium. Even with the improvements, compared to FF10 or FF12 for example, you are limited a lot on how you want to develop your characters and play the game. I want complete control back. And yes, I played the game, I have platinum from it.
I played XIII-2. It's better than XIII, but it still isn't THAT good.
The game was too short, battles were still as automatic as in XIII, the crystarium system was confusing, side-quests were boring if you didn't follow guides (going through the same areas in different times looking for small glows to throw Mog isn't fun at all), DLC was released after we already had done everything in the game and there was no use for them (why pay to use characters/weapons if you already finished the game?).
Plot-wise, Mog was annoying and there was no reason for him to exist, Noel didn't feel like "the last man alive", suddenly everybody was traveling through time, Valhalla's concept still doesn't make sense, the whole goddess dying thing was confusing...
But I must say that XIII-2's ending was brilliant. I hope they don't screw it by making another sequel. [spoilers] I guess have a soft spot for tragic endings, even though the "goddess heart that only Noel could kill" thing doesn't make sense to me. [/spolers]
FFXIII-2 fails everywhere and Square Enix knows that they will stop making crappy FF´s for a while ( not counting on Dissidia 1/2 those are pretty good)
im soooo confused as to why SE brung this out i didnt like or finish 13 so why am i buying 13-2 i knew this would happen. Why create a sequal to apologise to fans that didn't like the first one. Facepalm in need right now.
SE & this retard Wada thought because the first sell good ppl like it so it will be ok to make a sequel.. idiots, they didn't cross their minds that it was the first FF on PS3 and every1 have high expectations and they disappoint every1 with this joke for a game they release.
Release Versus already and if this game doesn't convince me that your company still deserve my time & money then I'm done with SE once & for all.
XIII was too damn repetitive to me.. mashing the x button during lesser battles & even some bosses just wasnt fun.. The story sucked too.. I hope versus isnt anything like that or XIII-2 gameplay or story wise.. the graphics were nice but thats about it.. Even some of the voices were annoying.. I love the FF series but it looks to be going downhill.. FFX HD will be on my vita though.. X is one of my favs
If they do make XIII-3 it should be a 20 dollar DLC with 8 to 12 hrs of gameplay with Lightning as lead including Summons with a final ending, then it may be a hit far as sales because if they make this a 60 dollar game then it will definitely be a epic fail in sales knowing the majority didn't like XIII or XIII-2 & knowing XIII-2 sales weren't that good. I loved XIII,XIII-2 was ok could of been better if Lightning would have been playable through the entire game including Summons & other human characters instead of recruiting monsters.
Final fantasy 13 was okay. 13-2 story was horrible even if it was a sequel any real FF fan will tell u the story was bad if I did not like the characters so much I maybe would have put this game down unfinished.
I bought XIII-2 used for $20 and it is quite a bit better than the original, but the story is just awful. They all have the 'Yeah! We can do it!' attitude which gets old quick. The time traveling concept was also quite dumb. It killed the feel of the game's world for me.
Wait that's bull here is the link for the sales for Final Fantasy XIII-2 . It sold 760k in america. Where the hell is this guy getting his information.
Here is the problem with the XIII series. ITs TO LInear,no towns cant talk to ppl, The gameplay is diffrent(Not actually bad), Half the characters are kind of annoying(Snow(generic hero), Vanillie(Super fake), Hope(whiny). Also you get all the characters more than halfway through the game. Despite these vast diffrences from previous final fantasies still a solid game IMO.
XIII-2 IT IS a big Improvement XIII shouldve been like this. However it goes backwards by giving you only 2 main charcaters I have no complaints with them. Noel and serah they are solid characters, There are towns, ppl, EXPLORATION granted it is limited by the area, The villian caius much better. Here is XIII-2"s big flaw IMO opinion Time travel/pardoxes is a risky move and acts as as a Krutch for story This was both good and bad for XIII-2. Finally cliffhanger ending flat out to be continued its kind of a middle finger.
Once again tho despite the diffrences I still enjoyed playing XIII and XIII-2.
The reason for this is 1. Stupid fanse that rage just because something changes (XIII best battle system in any FF part)
But at the same time the whole game became extremely linear I want more towns dammit.....
And 2. with XIII-2 they fucked up everything with the inclusion of this generations most stupid invention DLC.
plus SquareEnix changed. When they made the first FinalFantasy MMORPG their talent was replaced with greed they somehow stopped caring about FF and now its happening with Dragon Quest and the 10th game in the series. Why do they fuck up the games.....
Well Tales of Xillia destroyed FF13-2 in JAPAN if you compare the numbers of the first few weeks.
Only cause Xillia was a PS3 Exclusive. Hope you see what you have done SquareEnix - And this will continue till you give the REAL FANBASE what they want > Their HighQuality PS3/PS4 Exclusive that didn't get downgraded thanks to the 360.
And according to VGChartz the PS3 Version sold Worldwide 2 Million units while the 3fixme version sold nearly 500 000. The PS3 Version sold 540 000 in the US while the 360 Version sold 220k Units. In Japan the PS3 Version sold 840 000 Units were like 3 people bought the 360 version(Army Kids probably) Europe 400 000 PS3 and 200 000 360...
Over 2,4 Million combined worldwide. The USA isn't everything - Those people mostly play Call of Duty only and still want to buy such crap every year. They also somehow still play Halo LOL
I've just played my first two Tales games (Vesperia, Graces) and I can say without a doubt that there's a much better reason for that: they're just better games. They're real JRPGs with more entertaining combat and gameplay features, advancing the "format" in far more innovative and suitable ways than any SE title in the last... 10 years, nearly? The only thing that lets them down is fairly mediocre music and omnipresent genre tropes, but Graces and Vesperia have proven to me that Tales is the new premier JRPG franchise.
It's alright. Nothing great. They really gotta take a good hard look at themselves.
Many people loved FF11 as well, it remains the most profitable FF to this day, justifying a new expansion coming soon

This game should have just been put to rest at 13...
This is by far the worst FF gen ever.
It's sad, because it's far better then FFXIII...
Personally, I loved XIII. I was rather disappointed in XIII-2, though; it was okay, but didn't live up to the original, in terms of character or story. Because of the hatred that XIII got, I never expected XIII-2 to see good sales.
It's a solid game, but really only solid.
That and the fact that there was zero exploration in FFXIII.
Also they changed my favourite summon into a motorbike >_>
It was all just a bit...lame.
Oh and Leona Lewis...
I think the story was pretty good too, not my favourite of FF stories, but it wasn't bad either.
13, and 13 2 were both part of the same core game that was cut to be ported based on a fat check from MS.
Blame Wada for this one. He is a asshat.
XIII-2 is definitely better, but definitely doesn't live up to the Final Fantasy name. No game has since FFX came out. That was the LAST true Final Fantasy in my eyes. Only thing that really gives me hope is Versus, but who knows when that's coming...
Still if a ff13-3 is released I'll pick it up, I like the story in it for the most part. Still, I'm more excited for Versus =D.
It was a good game but if you don't want a sequel you aren't going to buy it.

Small Rant over.
Especially considering how good XIII-2 actually is.

And FF14 ver 2.0 looks like a good start.
Release Versus already and if this game doesn't convince me that your company still deserve my time & money then I'm done with SE once & for all.
Its just the cool thing to hate on this game even though most RPG'S have the same repetitive one button fights.
characters alone put ff13 to shame and beg for mercy for some coolness
clearly you just made yourself even more retarded for saying ff7 is crappy lol....
anw have fun with your piece of trash worst ff ever made to date 13 and enjoy ff13-2...500k hahaha have fun with these trashes nap
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...
500k ps3, the rest of the trashes is for xbox

dont try to find excuses the game S.U.C.K.S A.S.S
it the worst FF OF THE FRANCHISE DEAL WITH IT
Are you one of the RAGING FANS I talked about? Seems so because you blindly defend old stuff and rage.
I played FF I to XIII I know what im talking about are you?
1. I never said its the best FF I criticized it for being to linear etc.(please learn to read)
I just said it has the best battle system and despite being so linear its not worse than the rest of the FF games.
2. YOU ARE A CAPSLOCK RAGE KIDDO "DEAL WITH IT"
Only cause Xillia was a PS3 Exclusive.
