The Downfall Of Modern Gaming

Speaking as a gamer that has been playing games since the Sega Master System and pretty much every console since I have definitely noticed some annoying little developments that seem to plague modern gaming. I remember on the original Playstation it would took a good few days to complete any game and the difficulty in general was much more challenging, granted this may have been because I was younger, but I’ve played enough games since to know that there is a definite difference (3DS, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Dark Souls, PC, PS Vita, PS3, Xbox 360)

I think some games are just difficult when your younger cause i remember that i wasn't even able to complete a game in hard mode back when i was young but now i could easily do it with the same games that i couldn't in the past.

when i was younger i wouldn't exactly just follow the story mode. i totally spent 3 hours a day sometimes on the same level or just doing things that didn't pertain to the story. i still do this for my short attention span as a child has grown with me... *sigh*

No, games really are just too easy these days. We need more dark Souls, and Pikmin 1 status games in terms of difficulty.

I got to disagree with this guy on dead space. That game was really good. I don't about the second one because I didn't play it. I just felt like there wasn't a need for a second one. But dead space did have the element of being alone.
I'm getting tired of these old gamers complaining about the new generation of games. I think it's been a good generation. Not to say that I didn't have my dissappointments but I was more amazed than upset at this generation. I love cut scenes but I do think that MGS5 over did it lol.
And I don't think developers are scared to make innovative games. It's the publishers who don't want to take the chance because all they care about is money. There's a lot of developers who leave studios because of this and start their own studios. I'm 27 and been playing games since I was like 5 and I feel like games have gotten better for the most part.

Back when you were 5, I was 9, and I rememberd being floored at the power of the 8 bit Nintendo. We all had high hopes for the future of gaming back then. At times I did hope that games would be like an interactive movie, and that seems to be where the majority of publishers have headed.

However, my most hopeful and beloved dream has been in the hopes of virtual reality where a person can be completly immersed.

Now that the movie like games have been nearly masterd and rehashed a thousand times, I hope the inovations that really immerse us into these virtual worlds become more of a priority.

Too much of the same, Hell this generation has more shooters than PS1 and PS2 generation togueter, the already fanbase of some franchises doesnt matter anymore, Dead Space and RE has been too much influenced from the likes of Gears of War and Call of Duty.

This time there is no love when making games now is just money what it matters, of course there are exceptions.

I've been playing games since NES and Master System too, and to be honest the only reason a lot of those games were so difficult was because players had limited lives, continues, save, checkpoints, etc.

Also, game testing wasn't as in depth so there were cheap deaths all the time due to poor game design.

I'm not a huge COD fan but as an example, try playing it on Veteran with 3 lives, 3 continues and no check points.

I'm not saying that devs shouldn't give players the option to up the difficulty to old school levels, in fact, I think they should give us full control over enemy damage, health, etc. so we can tweak what's fun for the individual but I'd hate for old school difficulty if simply ment old school trial and error.

Any game would be hard if after you die, you have to do the entire level all over again or if they had less checkpoints. Again, it's the developers paradox, it you limit checkpoints people complain, if the game has too many checkpoints people complain. All we need are more options and control, I'd love to crank up the AI but have enemies to die in one or two shots to make it realistic but I'd also like to die in one or two shots as well personally.

Obviously developers would love highly difficult games, that way they can go back to making 2-3 hrs games that take 30hrs of practice to master and force players to replay levels over and over. It would certainly cost a lot less.
