Dead Space Losing Its Identity?

In the days before E3 2012, a series of leaked screenshots from Visceral Games’ Dead Space 3 hit the internet and spawned an explosion of speculation. Fans of the series, including myself, dissected and scrutinized every aspect of these images. Soon after, a flood of protests poured across the web as concerns grew over potential changes to the game’s successful survival horror formula. The official unveiling at E3 served only to confirm fears that the game would be experiencing a number of significant changes. (Dead Space 3, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

It's sad that EA thinks that if this game has action in it, then more people would be interested in it. I for one don't like what they are doing to one of the last survival horror games that still is being made today cause not much developers focus on Survival Horror which is one of my favorite type of games.

It's really all about the marketing, that's what these companies don't get. It's like, the fanbase grows with every installment of a game, then those players who jumped in late go back and purchase the originals as well. I'm not worried about the accessible part, but I just want Dead Space to be Dead Friggin Space haha

The first was unique and was definitely more creative, doesn't mean the new ones suck just because the gameplay has been modernized a bit with a few new features. It's still a great game, I don't care what anyone says.

Modernized? Changing it from tight spaces, tense scary moments (play the first one at least [2nd as well] late at night with the lights out and surround sound on...), weapons with alternate firing; to wide open spaces / open worldish, universal ammo / combined weapons, cover, enemies with guns / grenades, and a co-op partner that can attract all the aggro (one of the co-op vids showed a boss or mini boss basically chase Isaac for like 5 seconds then focus the rest of the time on the co-op partner while Isaac was free to fire at will... Scary...).

Its not modernizing the game, its completely changing the game from a survival horror to an action 3rd person shooter...

It would become stale if every iteration in the Dead Space Franchise was just like the original. This move gives more room for exploring different ideas and being creative. If you want survival horror, play the first over and over. By the way, a lot that's being said about DS3 was said about DS2 and that game turned out to be pretty scary and well made. It added MP and I could care less because I play Dead Space for the SP. Those that wanted it got MP and it honestly didn't detract from the SP. DS3 will still have a good SP that will be intense and frightening, even if it has a bit more action and the OPTION for coop.
