EA Origin: 'Our aim is to be a better version of Steam'

Actually, Valve doesn't even allow any other digital retailer to sell their games.

Real difference between the two is just that Valve is likeable, while EA isn't.

You can order physical copies of Valve's games online (EA Store, Amazon, BestBuy, etc) but not digital versions of Valve's games.

Considering that the physical copies usually only contain a steam-activatable code (and maybe some pre-loaded files which require a heavy amount of patches), buying physical is just an inconvenient and more expensive method of buying those games compared against digital... with Valve being the only option if you want to buy digital.

True, Steam does have a sort of DRM (not really though) but you can still play offline once you purchase the game you want, which I assume is the same as Origin.

Valve just cares, so gamers care about Valve. EA should probably learn how friendships work...

Lol, well they are failing in their aim. I remember upgrading my PC in December and keeping an eye on both steam and origin sales.. the Origin ones were an embarrassment compared to steam.

Their problem is that they're trying to emulate Steam's service in Origin, while they should be innovating their service to be different from Steam so that one must have both because they both do such great things. However, this is EA we're talking about and they won't do that because they don't like pleasing customers.

I hope The Assassin's Creed series, The Darkness 2, Crysis 2 and the Witcher 2 all go on sale. I've never played any of the Assassins Creed games, but after seeing the E3 footage of AC3, I gotta get in on this series.

Does anyone know if the control sceme is any good for The Wtcher 2? I heard the Witcher 1's controls were pretty bad.

I hope they will work hard trying to get there. while Im very happy with Steam it does need competition to keep evolving and to get better.

I think if EA just focused on making games instead of dominating every corner of the gaming industry they'd wouldn't post losses every year.

They have a lot of very strong franchises but try too hard to be number one in every genre, and marketplace.

If someone is making a dollar anywhere in the industry, EA wants to destroy them and take their place.

What's wrong? Browsing by 10 at a time by sliding pages. If you click on a game and use the back button, you've reset the page count! There's also no real way to browse besides genres with 10 items at a time with the most recent first.

I agree, there are some limited, stupid searching options for Steam to be as big as it is. But it's cool how you can type in tags in the search field and actually search categories of games by putting in stuff like "LAN +co-op +controller enabled"
