Blizzard finally admits that the lack of LAN in StarCraft II was due to piracy

DSOGaming writes: "The lack of a LAN feature in StarCraft 2 is something that has annoyed a lot of the game’s fans. And even though Blizzard was previously hiding behind words and excuses, StarCraft 2′s production director Chris Sigaty admitted that the company removed that feature – mainly – due to piracy." (PC, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, StarCraft II: Wings of LIberty)

Everyone knew they were lying in the first place. This is no surprise.

Shhh, Blizzard are geniuses at these things called 'Contemplating how to not whip our fanbase'....oh, wait..

They're mysterious overlords whos' actions are always intellectually sound! . . . No, wait...

TEH PIRACY! Fuck everyone else we want to maximize profit while hurting our consumers! As if Blizzard is going to make any title and NOT gain profit, instead they rather become more strict until Blizzard has the power to tell you when you're allowed to play, when you're allowed to stop playing, what time to go to bed! lol.

Soon....

when the game first came out i pirated it an beat it then later bought it to play online with friends cutting LAN support did nothing stop the game been played for free it merely hurt those that paid if your games good enough people will show support blame pirates all you want it still the company who took out the options

@jimmywolf

So you're saying (with a complete lack of punctuation marks) that you wouldn't buy the game (in fact, you pirated it), then you bought it because it was necessary to play with your friends, but says that Blizzard's decision is bad? You're the perfect example of why Blizzard made this decision in the first place. And you're also the perfect example that it worked - it made a pirate buy the game.

@NerdMaster

They may have had a sale because of their DRM for jimmywolf but they lost a sale from me because of their DRM.

I wonder if DRM gains, or loses more sales?

Piracy is a new fad for this generation, but it's hugely over-exaggerated, it's just developers and companies playing the Blame-game for their lack of creativity and the backlash that is, piss off your consumers and fanbase, expect sales to drop. Please your fans, they remain faithful and feel more inclined to invest their money into the company.

Blizzard and other companies just want to blow it out of the water and make sheep like you think that all piracy is to blame when really, economy is to blame for lessened sales, most piraters are people that honestly don't have enough money or income to pay for many games these days and have to use it on Life and survival, rent, food, etc. They're just earnest gamers that don't want to quit gaming under the shit-tastic life that is North American economy.

I'd say only 15-20% of pirates are the 'Greedy-selfish' scum type that Pirate for the sake of TEH FREEZ/!1!? y should i buy when i can haz for free tehe?!1! Type of complex.

Come Pirates, ride in on your white horse, whisper sweet nothings in my ear, tell me you are fighting for the good of the land. I know you want to.
I wont believe you, but heres a good chance to lie to yourself.

Something's not right here.

Admitting to something that everybody else has already suspected for years...during a time when Blizzard is having a lot bad press with Diablo 3 and DOTA 2 is near to launch....this is too convenient for their benefit.

No publicity like bad publicity and it does draw fire from the Diablo 3 fiasco.
segamon  +   337d ago
bastards, the game sold big with or without being pirated and vise-versa, the game is pirated sold big or not.

Greed on the expense of gamers, that's the honest truth.
DeadIIIRed  +   337d ago
You do realize it's that "greed" that pushes these companies to stay competitive and offer bigger and better things right? Nobody works for a living just to receive a pat on the back.
segamon  +   336d ago
what a shocking realization! thank god you're here to enlight the world! thanks to your wisdom i now realize the truth.

to express my sincere gratitude please pick your humble prize, wisely and gently.

So yeah, "greed" makes Valve consumer-first and EA anti-consumerist...

I guess in bizarro-world that makes sense.
