The Weekly Japan Preview: 1/20 Edition (Wii passes 5 million in Japan)

VGCharts Jacob Mazel reports that software sales have returned to normal weekly levels. A few upcoming marquee titles, such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl and Devil May Cry 4 will temporarily lift software sales on platforms as well, even outside of holiday periods.

VGChart is expecting (Predicting sales of) Hardware:

DS: 80,000 to 90,000 units
PSP: 70,000 to 80,000 units
Wii: 65,000 to 75,000 units
PS3: 24,000 to 32,000 units
PS2: 11,000 to 14,000 units
360: 3,000 to 5,000 units

Key Points:

- PS3 and Xbox 360 continue to see dire software sales in Japan. PS3 has not seen a title chart in the preliminary data set since the middle of December. Xbox 360 has not seen a title in the preliminary data set since the first week of December.

- In the absence of big new releases, ancient titles with long legs took up many of the spots in the top twenty. Examples include Monster Hunter Portable 2, New Super Mario Brothers, and Wii Sports.

-Hardware sales will continue to drop to post-holiday norms.
