EA wants Origin to be better than Steam

EA says it's "attempting" to make Origin a better download platform than other digital portals available on the market, comparing its move to out-do Valve's Steam service as the equivalent to Facebook taking on MySpace.

...and will fail considerably, by trying.

MAJ0R1885d ago

The reason? Steam is a private company and doesn't have shareholders to please, so they are free to do whatever they want, when they want, how they want.

EA is much more limited by it being public, and has to do things that they think will encourage people to buy their stock, rather than make their customers happy.

So good luck EA, your going to need it.

Steam has some very important games (Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress, Half Life etc), some very nice deals, achievements, big community etc.

EA won't be able to compete against steam.

sikbeta1885d ago

You guys will never give the chance to other Service even IF said service gives you craploads of games for free every week? just because it's not Steam, unbelievable...

I couldn't even find where to change my password on origin's website. I had to fire up the client, and buried within it was the option. Only problem? The damn thing didn't work!!!

Seriously! How is EA going to compete with Steam if they can't get something that basic right?

I hope for all of us that Origin never becomes the dominant player.

Well... Good luck to them then. Because it is going to take way more than just giving a free game from the catalogue of three for the sake of its first anniversary...

I wish Morgan Freeman would narrative some games

They would honestly have a better chance milking console gamers. Their model just wont work with the PC crowd.

No mods,
Shutting down servers 1-2 years later just so people buy the next game,
Day one DLCs,
Dumbed down console ports,
Console prices for PC games lol.

They should seriously stick with the console crowd, until they dont change their policies Origin stands no chance against Steam.

Personally my most anticipated game this year is Dota 2. Guess what, its coming out for free. Hell i wanted it so much i paid 39usd for the beta invite. I could have waited for the game to release, Valve just knows what their customers need.

Ha ha ha never! The way you close servers for no reason after 2 or 3 years and make my games useless bricks never lol.

Saryk1885d ago

They could do that even if their games were on Steam. That is a EA issue not a Origin issue. Trust me, it happened to me with NFS Undercover.

It doesnt matter if its on steam or not. Im talking about EA. Ea is crap dont buy EA games they will kill it soon. It doesnt matter if its on steam dont trust EA peroid

LightofDarkness1885d ago

Well, it won't be. Why? Gamers don't trust EA. People are happy to buy from Valve and Steam because they don't compromise on quality or service; they know they'll be looked after. EA have been doing much to increase their profits and sales, but little to win over gamers' hearts. The last two years have seen them become more villainous than Activision, and gamers have noticed. They'll buy the games, but I doubt anyone will be happy to use the service. There will always be the fear of subscriptions, servers going offline prematurely, online passes and myriad DLC, plus the fear that a simple forum post can get you banned from playing the games you've paid full-price for ever again.

I always avoid using Origin if I can, and I can imagine many others do the same.

Saryk1885d ago (Edited 1885d ago )

If EA wants to compete with Steam, they need to have regular sales and good sales. Not the BS they have been calling sales. More games on their service always helps, plus adding extra services like work shops. The problem I see with EA and Origin is that they are greedy and do not want to work with the competition. Valve wants to work with everyone and make great products.

EDIT:

Simply put. EA is ran by businessmen and Valve is ran by gamers.

Good luck. You will need it.
