Owning Games Isn’t What it Used to be, and That Needs to Change

As video games have embraced the Internet, gamers' rights have been whittled away at every turn. It's time we took back ownership of the games we buy. (Culture, Diablo III, Steam Valve)

you used to have to own the disc and if it got scratched you were sol. Point is you never owned the game, if you did you could copy it and do whatever you wanted with it legally. Now atleast we can backup the game, even if we do have to be online to play a community based game.

Making a copy is useless if the servers are down.

All those people with backup copies of Tabula Rasa? What good does that do them.

You make a backup copy of Diablo III and decide to play it 15 years from now (just like people play Super Mario World) and guess what? If Blizzard's servers are down that backup copy is useless.
