Rumor: OXM: No Xbox 360 Dashboard Update This Year

Loud Mouthed Gamers: "Given the fact that everyone is expecting the next generation of consoles to release next year, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Official Xbox Magazine (August 2012) is reporting that there will be no dashboard update this year." (Xbox 360, Xbox LIVE)

We have been getting a major update for what seems like every year, to the point that no updates is actually news and a disappointment!

Wonder what the competition is thinking? That is just normal state of affairs and welcome to our world of no updates!

What was wrong with the first generation dashboard for the 360? It worked just fine. I will admit the one after that was pretty slick also but now you are just cramming as much shit on my screen as you possibly can.

Used to i could go to the games demo section in two presses of a button. Now i have to travel through 3 or 4 tabs and go through a time warp and hell and back to find the demo page.

And don't even get me started on having to use Zune to watch a video when you used to could just download it and press play.

Keep your updates they suck.

Whilst there won't be a major dash overhaul this year, there will be some additions. One of which, is the ability to pin your favourite apps/sections to the home page.

You must really love the xmb? Sad thing is you prolly do.

We've become so spoiled that we expect a totally new dashboard every single year now? I don't mind the one now, I didn't mind the one before, or the one before that.

I'm cool with it either way, the fact that they've updated and changed and added things shows that they care about growing the service and that they care about their consumers. I'm cool with that.

Then where is all that XBL money going?
ChunkyLover53  +   367d ago
Where to start?
Voice messaging
One to one chat
Group party chat
Feedback and rating system
Avoidance system
Cloud Saves
Ability to appear offline
Ability to have a profile longer than 14 characters, which is perfect for clan gaming and recruiting, especially since you can mass voice message all recent players ect...

ESPN 3
UFC
Youtube in HD
Bing searches
IGN App
Zune/Microsoft music
I Heart Radio
Last.F.M. Radio

There are probably a ton of apps that I'm not listing, but these are the ones I pretty much use on a daily basis, along with Netflix and sometimes Crackle.

Xbox Live is more socially set up, its the Facebook of online applications, that being said, I don't think I want an updated dash every year. We know we are getting some sort of an update, because we are getting Internet Explorer and other features that were mentioned at E3.

I don't hate PSN, I use it from time to time, but as far as online and especially online third party games, I play those exclusively on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.

Just a preference.

Hope all of that answered your question.

we know that theres a dashboard update coming this year, we saw it at E3 lol.

its not a full redesign, but they were never going to do a full redesign every single year. its just expanded on the original metro dashboard.

heres the current one:

note how its only got 2 rows of tiles.

heres the updated one shown at E3:
http://www.xboxkinectfans.c...

note how its got 3 rows of tiles. it also has a "TV" tab along the top menu now.

im amazed at how many things like this people missed from E3 to be honest. another example is when they showed bing search by genre, up the top right of the dash you could see 'web results' as a results category - as soon as i saw that i was like "well theres internet explorer confirmed", yet none of the live blogging sites caught it or even mentioned IE until they announced it a fair while later on in the conference.

In the UK, we already get 3 rows of tiles and the tv tab.

"it also has a "TV" tab along the top menu now. "

The current dash already has that.

I honestly don't like the dashboard we have now. I can't even see my premium themes anymore. Takes longer to get to my game library and videos
Gamer-Z  +   368d ago
Well unless they can figure out a way to get more adds on there i really don't see what else they can do.
Fyflin  +   367d ago
They've pretty much added as many features as they possibly can to the current dash. The next big update we see will be on the next Xbox, which will simply be an evolution of the current Metro interface.

I'm confused, at E3 we were told smartglass was coming later this year? Wouldn't that require an update?
aviator189  +   365d ago
There's going to be an update this fall. It just won't produce a major overhaul of the dashboard as we've seen over the last few years. There will be slight cosmetic changes, judging from the e3 2012 dash, but we're not going to see a major change such as the change from the first dash to the nxe. And yes, this update will include smartglass support.
Donnyskillz  +   367d ago
yes I think that its gonna come soon than people think, that's the reason for the update we got this past week, it was prepping it for a bigger update, but just to show how we miss things, in the update last week there was a change that people never noticed, on the social tab next to the avatar there is a avatar store tab there now replacing the social apps tab that use to be there. that's why I always look at those updates that they say are setting up future updates
