Ryse is still being built, not 'shipping in the next twelve months'

The Verge writes: Ryse was originally announced as "Codename Kingdoms" during Microsoft's E3 2010 press conference. During last year's Microsoft press conference, it was revealed to be a Kinect-enabled "core" title. During this year's E3, it wasn't mentioned at all.

"We're still building Ryse," corporate VP of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer told me in an interview last week, shooting down any suggestion that the game has been canceled. "We're focused on games coming in the next twelve months, something I say every year, and it's not something we'll be shipping in the next twelve months." If you're keeping track at home that means, at the very least, a hefty three-year window between the reveal of the project and a possible summer 2013 launch window. MS needs to stop announcing games 3 years before they are ready.

I agree - all game companies need to stop announcing game 3 years in advance.

2 Years is acceptable but the standard should be one year. Why show me or tell me about a super awesome game and then tell me that I wont be able to play it until 3 years.

Nothing we all didn't know
They announced LAST DECEMBER that Ryse was pushed back into next gen and by every indication it got pushed back into next gen.

yeah I just hope they do at least announce the new hardware not too long before they release it.
say what you want against apple, but presenting a product one day and releasing it 3-4 weeks after is brilliant and loved by many consumers.
Wintersun616  +   774d ago
That's something that many other companies outside of gaming do too, no need to give specific praise to Apple for it.

I say the same thing about The Last Guardian.

Next gen launch title?
ChunkyLover53  +   774d ago
Its probably going to be a next generation launch title. A Crytek employee leaked it earlier in the year that they switched it over to a next gen Xbox game. That is probably why its taking so long.

A.They scraped the idea of a current Kinect game and it will be a controller based new IP on the next Xbox

B.They scraped the idea of a current Kinect game and will utilize the more sensitive Kinect 2 with the next Xbox.

If the specs are to be believed that were leaked this morning, the next Kinect will be able to track 1.1 motion and enable 4 person co-op at the same time.

Just a little food for thought.

i hope they move towards a more hardcore fanbase for kinect 2.0 They have more than enough resources by utilizing smartglass since almost everyone has a sort of smartphone out there.

Maybe this is why the e3 landscape was so bare
Plus PlayStation was great but not 2011 exciting. Hell Nintendo announcing the Wii u was more enticing then this years Nintendo e3.

It's long been rumored that this game shifted to the 720. With it's absence from E3 it's just further confirmation.

Probably will still be a Kinect game, but Kinect 2.0 versus the kinect thats out right now.

No big surprise here.

I hope its a next gen release. Already too many great 360 games to get already.

*Not shipping in the next 12 months.*

Not expecting the next XBOX to launch within that timeframe anyways so I kind of knew this already.
Crytek announced last year that RYSE were no longer in developement for the 360, but for a next gen system.

They already clarified that this game is still slated for the 360.

I personally think that the kinect technology is growing so fast that they decided to integrate some of the new stuff so they went back in and revamped them game. If you truly follow kinect you would know that they have really tightened it up.

I think thats what happened with Kinect Star Wars as well. If you look at the gameplay footage they showed in the trailers lots of that stuff isnt even in the game. I know the reviewers crapped all over Kinect Star Wars but what they failed to do was recognize the milestones the game hit for kinect. I always tell people that dont think kinect is fast or accurate to go download the demo of Kinect Star Wars play podracing, take the helps off so you can fully control it. Put your fists to your stomach move them out about 4-6 inches and play the racing in that range dont out stretch anymore keep your movements in that 6 inch box and move as fast as you want watch how fast kinect tracks you.

Its tracking you fast and accurate with in a range of inches in the z axis. That is phenomenal.

And last time I checked they said this game was controller based with kinect optional.
