There’s been a lot of talk recently about remaking Final Fantasy VII, which was first released back in 1997. Though the game set several sales records and received widespread acclaim, character designer Tetsuya Nomura recently said new titles take precedence over remakes. That still hasn’t stopped Square Enix this week from registering the domain name FinalFantasyviipc.com. The domain was registered on June 15, 2012, according to Whois records.
those games are to big and square is to lazy and don't want money
sadly those are 2 of my favorite ff
That game packed so much content and had one of the best character developments. I remember playing through each character's back story and how it made me feel connected with each and everyone of them(except Mog). The soundtrack was hauntingly beautiful as always, coming from the legendary Nobuo Uematsu.
This is from FF Anthology and it shows what FF6 could look like with polygon graphics.

The style is distinctly Yoshitaka Amano who is known for displaying his artwork on many past FF box cover, manuals, and also for Vampire Hunter D. I wouldn't mind a remake looking like this, but with current gen polygon count at all.
Also Vin13cent, I don't think your reply to my comment addressed any of the issues I mentioned. You say all that is left are graphics, and I completely agree with you. So then why does your first comment blame Enix? Every true fan should know where the heart and soul of Squaresoft was and where they went.
Edit: I see further down you commented on Nomura still being employed by Square. That's two of the four (really five including Amano...) that are still on the projects. It's a shame they aren't in the positions they used to be.
They could do it justice. Easily.
It all depends on whether or not a remake is like Final Fantasy IV Complete, or if they decide to spew ADVENT CHILDREN ADVENT CHILDREN diarrhea all over it.
FFXIII and FFXIII-2 are the proof that SE has lost its touch.
But it does anger me a bit that they're giving the Steam release the most love (if the rumoured features are true). You think the Playstation version would see more love since when you think 'Final Fantasy VII' you think Playstation. I doubt anyone would ever think "Oh yeah! That PC game!" since the PC Port was garbage.
If they do consider a remake I hope they can reproduce those level of graphics. The main concern for me is the addition of voices. Final Fantasy VII didn't have them. The movie did an excellent job and I would hope that's how they remake the game.
Then, I want an FFVI remake with brand-new sprites and background art, plus new music (with the original music selectable). Just like the Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 4 remakes.
Then and only then would I want an FFVII remake. With brand-new sprites replacing the fugly old 3D models, and new background art, plus new music (with the original music selectable). Just like the Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 4 remakes.
This is all that is needed. FFVII doesn't need to be remade in to match the aesthetic of Crisis Core/Advent Children. It just needs to be updated.
It BADLY needs to be updated, with those primitive 3D models it's aged the WORST out of all the Final Fantasy games.
Personally, I prefer sprites. 2D art ages a LOT better than 3D art. Just look at the FANTASTIC new sprite work that was done for the DS remakes of Dragon Quest 4, 5 and 6. Absolutely beautiful.
But I know it will not happen so for now I just w8 to see if Versus is worth w8ing for for all those years or if it's another disappointment in the long fail-list of games SE released from the time they merge with Enix, I am sure they also know that if this game fail to impress also then only an FFVII remake can save them.
Perhaps this is another spin off title like Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus, or perhaps it really is a FFVII remake but some sort of portable or expanded version of the game with some random subtitle to differentiate it.
Heck, if I worked for Square-Enix I'd register random FFVII related URLs all the time just to watch the internet set on fire! Haha just kidding... I think.
Or... OR! If you all read the article you might see that the domain name was once registered to a person from Norway and Square-Enix have registered it now it has expired. More than likely they are simply preventing the person from registering it again, and nothing more.
Hopefully the squares will make it sooner than later.
