Exactly. Dead Space 1 had meager, but respectful sales. So EA offered more value with Dead Space 2 by including competitive MP and Dead Space: Extraction for a limited time. The result? Dead Space 2 outsells the original. EA is continuing this trend with Dead Space 3 by adding co-op.
could be... poor sales = saturation point or a shift in consumer focus to something else.
People who want a wii/ps3/360 have gotten one and are eagerly awaiting the release of something newer. During which time they supplement their needs with something simple and cheap and most of all....convenient.
The ups and downs of the gaming industry are pretty typical. They are reflective of the trends of new releases in years past. They may be down this year and back up same time next.
In my circle of friends, we have ALL stopped buying games. This trail end of this gen has gotten stale big time. Too many shooters, to many games that are too similar, too many franchises selling out to the causal crowd, etc. The only game coming up that interests me is TLOU and the new game from David Cage.

Thats a great point. It would explain why the 3DS is doing so well. Not only is it still new, but its cheap.
Vita and DS have plenty new games coming.
Price is a big thing for PS3/360.
