EA’s Andrew Wilson – “No such thing as a sports gamer, any more”
VG247: At E3 this year, VG247 caught up with Andrew Wilson, executive VP and head of EA Sports and covered an awful lot of ground, including: UFC, yearly updates, Kinect and the varied palette of today’s gamer.

I agree with him in some aspects. However, EA isn't what they used to be in terms of sports games. If you are a true gamer who grew up with EA sports , then I don't have to sweet talk you. Nba Live and Madden were some of the best innovative games hand over fist. Now, I don't know if it's EA's repetitive nature, lack of man power and focus on flagship games, or high price point limited improvement are to blame, but to be innovative you have to bring new things to the table, which is what EA sports games are lacking these days. However, he speaks a little truth when he said
“Gamers have so much more choice now than they’ve ever had. When I came up as a gamer, you only played sports games: if you were a sports guy, you played sports games. Well, guess what? There’s no such thing as a sports gamer any more."
Back in the 90's sports games for sports lovers were it. I would go over to friends houses and they had nothing but sports games that we played all day and talk smack. Where he is wrong is saying there isn't a sports gamer any more . that idea is trumped by how many buy madden every year along with NBA2K. It is EA's mission to keep that fan happy, and lately EA is slacking
This is probably the prototype for the CoD model of "brainwash, rinse, repeat" every year.
